I agree, the worlds economy has been in trouble for years, how does not getting paid 3million next year going to help him and save the world, there is something else going on here and this soap opera with him is getting old ..... This guy is a JERK and only cares about himself .... trade him to Winnipeg for a 7th rounder and hopefully he never recieves a dime from another NHL franshise

Well that doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The agent would certainly benefit, but what would thomas gain from this??

anyways, conspiracy theories are fun.

If he does take a year off, my hope would be that he take some crash courses in etiquette and manners. If any "star" in today's NHL could benefit from such training, it would definitely be him that could benefit the most.

I don't get the taking a year off, I would understand him saying he was retiring, but not taking a year off at his age. It has been said that he wants to play for team USA and in order to get ready for that he wants to take time off. That doesn't make much sense either, not with Quick, Miller, Howard all playing.

I even have to question as to whether or not team USA would even want him to represent the country since he didn't want to show up to be honored by the president. I don't know if that would matter or not, I am sure it would matter to some people.

hes not playing next year... who wants his caphit?

Quote:
From the earliest age I can remember, I've wanted to be a hockey player. I've been blessed in my life to not only be able to live that dream, but to achieve more than I ever thought possible.

The singleminded focus that is necessary to accomplish a dream of this magnitude entails (by necessity) sacrifice in other areas and relationships in life.

At the age of 38, I believe it is time to put my time and energies into those areas and relationships that I have neglected. That is why at this time I feel the most important thing I can do in my life is to reconnect with the three F's.

Friends, Family, and Faith.

This is what I plan on doing over the course of the next year.

On top of this, I will continue to train using the ARP/POV system www.ultrafitevosport.com and work with G-Form www.g-form.com in the development of protective equipment.

What does this portend for the future?

We'll see….God's will be done.

TT

If the B's want to give up their #24 pick to get rid of his cap hit, I'd take Thomas in San Jose, suspend him, and let his contract run out.

OK, at first I thought this was all just posturing for trade negotiations. Now that I have looked into though, I think he does truly believe the the world is about to descend into chaos and he is going to Colorado with seeds and guns. He is not trying to save anything more than his family, he's just full on bugging out. Good luck, Tim, enjoy your new life, the rest of us are going to hang out here and see what happens.

Either I'm starting the bandwagon or jumping on one; but Tim Thomas for Khabibulin?

Khabibulin gets to play backup for Rask and gets one last trip to the playoffs,

Thomas comes to Oilers, gets rid of Khabibulin and his contract expires before Hall & Eberle get their raises.

That trade does nothing for Edmonton. Khabibulin and Thomas both expire after next season.

I don't think that Thomas' contract will count against the Bruins' cap if he is suspended. Will depend on if the 35+ y/o contract still trumps suspended status.

50.10 Player Injuries, Illnesses and Suspensions.

(c) For Players that are suspended, either by a Club or by the League, the
Player Salary and Bonuses that are not paid to such Players shall not count against a
Club's Upper Limit or against the Players' Share for the duration of the suspension, but
the Club must have Payroll Room for such Player's Player Salary and Bonuses in order
for such Player to be able to return to Play for the Club.

Why does it feel like the only reason people are mad is because it will count against the cap either way (retire or suspended)? If it wasn't on the books, I don't think people would really care at all. It's kind of sad in a way.

for all the problems he seemed to create for his team this year...I dont have an issue fro player to take time off to address important personal issues.

i think most Bos fans may be annoyed but he certainly has more than paid Bos fans in full and then some for what he has done over the last few years

So stupid. At 38 years old he is one of the best goalies in the league and he's just going to walk away from it. He could probably play at least another 2 years. I could care less about his personal life. We just lost one of the best players in the league and it hurts the league to lose a popular and talented player like Tim Thomas. Just stupid.

But Thomas would carry a cap hit with having to actually pay him. I'm pretty sure Khabibulin will insist on being paid.

If Alfie doesn't retire, you could trade him to the Sens for a draft pick.

It's a win-win situation. Boston doesn't waste the cap space, Ottawa doesn't have to play against Thomas!
