I just have to laugh at the mentality of the post lockout fans. 23 years old before the lockout and the prospect would still have 5 years to make the nhl. Now it is 23 years old, 2 year pro, haven't made the nhl and he is a bust.

He is 3 years pro.
There is more pressure now to make it early with the waiver rules/CBA, etc. If a guy is going to make it with the team that drafted him it is usually by about age 24 or 25. If he isn't showing signs of being ready by that age, the team might as well not have drafted him (expended assets). I grant that there are guys who bloom later, but they usually do it somewhere else. I expect fewer and fewer Murray stories in the current environment.

It's not that he hasn't made the NHL, but that he hasn't looked great at the AHL level. He after 3 years there, he should be at least a top-2 defenseman.
If you look at the Baby Sharks depth chart in the AHL:
UFA: Mike Moore
RFA: Petrecki, Pelech, Irwin
Signed: Acolatse, Gogol, Albeitshauser, Doherty, Tennyson
It will be interesting to see if Moore will be resigned considering he was on a 1 way deal last season and the team captain. He could look for greener pastures to play in the bigs. I dont think Pelech will be offered a contract since Tennyson and Albeitshauser will be coming into the lineup.
That leaves Petrecki and Irwin. Irwin had a nice season for himself last season point wise, not sure how his overall game has progressed, but I think it may be wise to give him another shot.
Petrecki, Im sure will be offered another contract, probably a 2 year deal. I too have not gone that far to write him off, most average defenseman take time to mature. I think by the time any D man is 25-26 years old you should know if they are capable of playing in the NHL. Its really up to the Sharks org. to give him time and space to grow. And they cant afford to be throwing away 1st round picks anymore.

I think Moore is leaving and Pelech is likely to be kept. From what 210 and Speed have said, he's probably ready to be a #7 in the NHL. If Murray is moved, Pelech likely has even more chance of making the NHL with the Sharks (he has a small amount of NHL experience elsewhere). And by all reports he seems to be exactly the type of character guy that DW says he likes.
A lot of sites failed to update for the fact that he was converted from D in junior.
Same deal with Drew Daniels. Most prospect reports still call him a winger, but he converted to defenceman last season at Northeastern.

Petrecki is a bonehead. He has a lot of maturing to do before he would be able to mentally handle any NHL duty.
Moore is all but gone and everyone knew that (including him) at seasons close. Irwin will probably be resigned and Petrecki's likely too to see if he pans out. If SJ is paying any attention they'll resign Pelech because he's a monster and they could use that particularly if Murray moves on.

Sounds like Pelech is a pretty physical player. Correct?
Also, how is he on 2 on 1's and more importantly how is his skating? Faster than Murray .. I hope.

He's a decent skater, very rarely out of position. He started the year off slow and struggling to kind of find his "place" but he got into his groove and really kept his game up. It's also unreal how many shots he can block in a single game. He's a bit of an "interesting" character in general...
