And the Kings are getting a chunk of that signing bonus, presumably to sign Quick?

Wow. That's pretty incredible.

Tim Leiweke was openly discussing that the team will sign, or attempt to sign Quick to a lengthy and expensive deal. My guess is that negotiations on a contract extension won't take too long.

12 years is a little on the short side (no pun intended). The A-Holes(Angels), just got 20 and the Dodgers likely will too.

Quick is gonna get paid a big front-loaded deal. That's a huge advantage, hard for any team to offer that.

Stupid infractions prevent me from editing, thus a quick copy and paste job with no direct link. Hopefully a mod can fix that.

So are the Lakers really leaving Fox Sports West? What other local cable option is there for them? I can't see them kick starting their own cable channel.

TWC is starting one, and that is where the Lakers (and Galaxy) are going. Part of the reason many believe the Dodgers price was so high, was that many think they can start their own network now.

MM is a pretty standard abbreviation for million. It comes from Latin "Mille" meaning "thousand", so MM is a "thousand thousands" which equals one million.

"MM" is widely used in the financial industry.

Hell of a deal for the Kings. "The new deal averages about $21 million per season. The most lucrative local cable deals pay NHL teams more than $25 million per season and the least lucrative less than $10 million, Forbes reported in December 2010."

never liked the Fox Sports production. Their production involves plugging in some old 80's generic soundbite and calling it a day. It's amazing how much more interesting games look on NBC. Almost wish they left the channel

I agree with you somewhat (their in-arena audio mixing is terrible compared to TSN, CBC or even NBC). HD video quality isn't quite as good as NBC either.

Although looking at NBC4's Fred Roggin postgame shows with their fuzzy SD cameras and poor production quality makes FSN look like a well-oiled machine in comparison.

The more I think about it, the more I wish they left. there are people on this board who have created videos that are far more polished than what FSN does. How is it that this cable company who can dish out $250 mil but can't match up to the hobbies of the people on this board? It's ridiculous. I can't even comprehend how embarrassed I would feel if somebody in their spare time - with no experience - can dish out better quality work than what I do for my job.

Just hearing the Fox Sports intro makes me want to stab my ears with an icepick. I'm so tired of that lame guitar solo.

My beef has and always will be not televising any pre-season games. It's just hey, guess what, the season starts right now, let's drop the puck. If somebody on the Lakers sneezes FSW will break into their regular programming. I prefer the coverage like on NESN or MSG where you can tell they care about their team and want to inform their fans.

Interesting - thx for the info. I've always wondered why milllions gets abbreviated both ways.

In the Architectural / Engineering / Construction industry, it would be $250M (or $250m)

FSN does a good enough job for me. Improvements are welcome though. Between FSN, Center Ice and the networks, I'll never complain about being able to watch every Kings game on tv.
