Thomas's decision could end up hurting the Bruins more than Drury's buyout, but retirement really isn't the issue with Thomas as mentioned above. There are other differences between Drury and Thomas as well. Unlike Drury, Thomas has an expiring NMC on July 1 and would have been easier to trade than Drury. And with the cap possibly going down next season, having $5 million of dead space may be more costly to the Bruins than Drury's cap hit has been to the Rangers.

Buying out Drury hasn't really had a negative impact on the Rangers. Sather still managed to sign Richards last summer and the team made it to the ECF this season. They also would have been able to fit Nash in at the deadline had Columbus not been so unreasonable. I can't remember anyone complaining about Drury's cap hit this year, and no one is concerned about his cap hit for next season considering all the fantasy team lineup projections posted on here. The only thing harmed in all this is Dolan's checkbook, which doesn't bother me in the least.

Question, why is he dead cap space no matter what. Lets say he did retire...how would that still be dead cap space, a guy retired, should come off.

Vokoun will be backing up Fleury next year. Yikes.

Pens gave up a 7th for his rights.

IIRC, he's a 35+ contract.

The Pens issue was not their goaltending, it was their defense. Adding a 2 million dollar back-up seems a bit excessive considering he didn't play all that well in Washington.

The pens had more than one issue. Their goaltending and defense were both brutal. And their forwards didn't commit to giving enough effort in their own zone or on the back check either. Total team failure.

Blues signed Tarasenko to an entry level deal.

At the time of the 2010 draft people were really worried he'd never come over.

Well, he is.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger Could be an injury, but sounds like Simon Gagne will draw in for the Kings tonight. Richardson hurt?

I have a friend who is a Flyer fan and I think it's tearing him up that Carter, Richards and Gagne are going to win the Cup and it's not with the Flyers.

It's still hard for me to picture Gagne in a Kings jersey because he was a very important Flyer for so long. But if he wins the Cup there, good for him.

Tarasenko hasn't signed anything yet. He can't sign until July 1. In fact, there was a story about Tarasenko changing his mind and staying in the KHL today. It was denied by the player and the Blues.

It appears the Flames will become a budget team. They won't spend close to the cap. $55M puts them below the current midpoint of $56.3M right now.

Told ‪#Flames‬ will not be cap team anymore. In fact, expect them to be around 55 Million when hockey is played again

The Flames will try shed a big ticket but it won't be Iginla or Kipper. They are staying in Calgary.

I am sure they would love to move Stajan as well. I wonder if they would give up an asset to cut that salary.

Makes you wonder why they added Cammalleri......

Is Tarasenko really projected to be a more physical version of Ovechkin?

So just how good could Tarasenko be for the Blues? Well, consider the player his game is most often compared to right now is that of Alex Ovechkin (actually, a more physical version of Ovechkin), and it's easy to start feeling a bit...hyperbolic. Tarasenko is not going to come in next season and play at that kind of level. But he has those kind of skills. He has that kind of ability on the offensive side. For a team that was such a defensive powerhouse this past season, but often struggled to score enough to support that defense, the addition of a player with Tarasenko's abilities is beyond simply exciting.
