McPhee spending his time on these blockbusters.

Let's hope he had a chance to ask the Pens brass advice about a coach.

"Hey, your minor league team always hated facing Mark French's teams, right?"

Haha, even though it's sad and probably true.

And the trade itself is very stupid. We get nothing. The Pens get a goalie that can help to beat us in the playoffs. Sure, they could have signed him as a UFA but why help them? It's inexplicable.

Exactly... I'm sure Toronto would have been glad to pay a 7th rounder.

The Penguins get an awkward dynamic with having added a starting goalie to their roster after their franchise goalie shat the bed in the playoffs, and the Capitals get an extra draft pick for someone they signed as a UFA last year and weren't going to re-sign. A 7th rounder, yeah, but one of those netted Garrett Haar, so don't write it off as worthless just yet. There aren't very many teams looking for a starting goalie, and the Penguins could have just as easily signed him on July 1st. Good trade.

Word around the trade deadline was that Toronto has no interest in Vokoun. Maybe Chicago, I guess.

Saw that on the Pens board. They still ****ing think Fleury is elite.

Makes me kind of think that if you're going to move Neuvirth this off season might be the one where you can maximize his return. Now obviously this isn't exactly the preferred time to trade Neuvy, but seldom do great trade opportunities arise at opportune times.

Why would Vokoun want to go to TOR?

Depends on how willing other teams are to look at his (presumed) potential rather than base it on his play last season. The market is ready for him, I'd think, but his value is probably as low as it's ever been.

It would be interesting to try to sell him to someone who loses out on Luongo. I wouldn't want him traded to Tampa Bay, but maybe Toronto or Chicago has interest in him.

It would explain the odd trading partner in Pitt though. If GMGM had a suitor for Neuvirth in Toronto then it makes sense for him to ship off Vokoun to another team knowing full well that Vokoun is the hottest UFA goalie. I haven't looked much at Toronto's prospect pool but knowing where they've drafted the last few years I don't think it would be crazy to surmise that they may have more interesting prospects to us than any other team in the market for G. Besides while Pitt most def. would have taken Vokoun, they would never take Neuvirth, Toronto on the other hand I could see taking Neuvirth.

I think we are more likely to hit on a free agent over a 7th. Let's all try not to fly off the haarndle whomever it ends up being. Maybe we are playing the glare factor and hoping he can help destroy the pens from within.

Too bad he couldnt throw in Laich somehow

Wait til July 1st.

Sign Harding/Mason/Clemmensen.

Trade Neuvirth to whatever team is left at the alter with all the goalie movement.

I don't think this move has anything to do with a potential Neuvirth trade (other than the impact it has on the market). Vokoun is the one who found this deal, not GMGM, by the looks of it.

Oh man, Scott Clemmensen. A dumpster dive of Oscar the Grouchian proportions.

If Clemmensen is available, McPhee's two biggest instincts, to hoard his nuts and to dumpster-dive, will come into conflict. Maybe we'll end up with three goalies on the roster.

Clemmensen's last four years as a backup:

40 GP - .917

23 GP - .912

31 GP - .911

30 GP - .913

He's a solid backup. Signing a solid backup is not dumpster diving.

People think Vokouns .917 year this year was bad... What do you expect.

I was just carrying along his premise to make fun of McPhee. Yeah, he'd be fine. I would like Harding...but obviously it's going to be Holtby/Neuvirth.

That's putting a lot of faith in Holtby. As good as he's been, I don't ever trust young goaltenders going into a season as the starter without having a tandem or 1B option. I trust Neuvirth more as a full time starter than any of those three.

if trading noovy was ever a real option the caps would have kept voukon for 2 years 2 mill.

im guessing 45-50 games for holtby and 30-35 for hello kitty
