Some of us are busy trying to look to the future so that next season isn't equally crap, and that's not helped by this "woe is us we're so dooooomed" garbage being bandied about as though it's some sort of realistic logical argument.

Are you a Dorsett or a Carter? Will you stand up, brush it off, and keep going, or are you going to sit there and whine until the world magically falls into your lap?
Seems to me, and strictly my opinion, that the more **** we shovel on our selves the more license others take to shovel as well.

We had a bad year, finishing dead last is proof in itself, but man to continually and constantly flog, chastise, and castigate the franchise about everything under the sun just seems to me to be less than constructive discourse.

Vokoun's rights traded to Pittsburgh.

On the bright side, Brent Johnson is now available in the free agent market.

Also, from Dmitry Chesnokov's twitter:

#KHL's official site lists #CBJ's goaltender Curtis Sanford as another new signing by Lokomotiv.

I'm not sure I'm going to trust that, they were wrong about Vokoun so I don't know if I believe this.

Hey Viq, you promised me a cookie like a year ago. Which I never received. Didn't even get a pic like Roadman.

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline
Former ‪#CBJ‬ G Curtis Sanford confirms to Dispatch he's signed w Lokomotiv of KHL and will play there in 2012-13. "Not a back-up plan."

Careful Lee, there is a bounty on perceived negative comments... As for Vokoun, sure he would be an improvement in our goaltending but that ship sailed last summer when he was passed over by Columbus.. Howson didn't indicate any interest in him then so why now, Howie will get a goalie of some nature, he has no choice.

I'm more concerned about not keeping Sanford as a backup. I really don't want Steve Mason as our backup.

I'm beginning to wonder where Howson will find an NHL skilled goaltender available.

I don't see this team getting two goaltenders this off-season the way things seem to be progressing. So, get used to Mason in Union Blue in some capacity next season.

Sanford wanted to stay and would have been sufficient in a backup capacity. With his departure and the unavailability of Thomas and Vokoun, I'm a bit nervous that we will see an upgrade in goal at all this off-season. Now we might still get someone like Harding as our #1, but then we're going to rely on Steve Mason if he gets injured, and that's troubling.

He was pretty good and I did support signing him as a backup this season, I also liked Garon and Conklin too. It appears Howson isn't interested in keeping veteran backups so I'm not surprised.

I felt that before this all started and this recent move doesn't help that impression. I fear you are probably correct.

As the goalie picture develops I'm now thinking there is a better than 50% chance Mason sticks around.. In all honesty he did seem to improve near the end of the season, that coupled with his contract and it's quite plausible he will be considered for backup duties.

Agreed... I voted for the best two UFA options earlier in the offseason, but Sanford was kind of my "fallback" signing in hopes he was still hanging around. Two very real options are now off the board and this organization still needs at least three goaltenders, by my count. A #1, A #2 and a guy to carry the load in Springfield while York and others below him develop.

The Chances Mason stays on in some capacity have gone up, as has the chances that the Nash trade returns a tender, not necessarily as the centerpiece, but returns one.

It was reported that Vokoun was going to the KHL if he didn't get an NHL offer he liked.

Sanford held the fort well most nights here, extremely unspectacular, but still has a few years left in him, proved if nothing else that he can be an effective fill in starter.
