I feel like he will be this years Khokhlachev. Not good enough for the first round but will be taken way before our second round pick.

Well we'll see, I know it doesn't mean much but draftsite.com has him going 61st overall. If he goes before 52 then fine, but if he's there at 52, it would be a good pick for the Pens.

Not a very good mock.

Vasilevski and Dansk before Subban? Not a chance that's gonna happen.

could definitely see him gone, it's pretty hard to predict who goes where once you get past the first 20 or so players in most drafts. I remember how shocked everyone was when Pulkkinenn lasted so long in the 2010 draft.

Athanasiou may bust hard as an NHL level, or he could be the next Pascal Dupuis. I honestly haven't seen a guy skate that well since Pavel Bure. He could be one of the top 3 fastest skaters in the NHL if he gets there. It's boom or bust pick to be sure, but I would likely say the same goes for anyone who we select in this draft anywhere near #22. It's just that kind of year.

Ultimately it'd depend on who else is available, of course.

Interestingly, I just noticed that Samuelsson was originally ranked in the top 10 on Redline's first list at the beginning of the season in October. Obviously he has falled pretty far, but there must have been some attributes they liked about him enough to put him in that category. Then again, he was rated just behind Nick Ebert at #4

We all also have to take into account the league going back to a more clutch and grab(more interference) style of play. I'd say they would need to look into good fore checkers with decent size to go with skill. Some of the picks on dump ins are atrocious.

Speed still has to be in the equation, but you have to sacrifice some for size, but not always depending on the players conditioning as a big player.

I wouldn't mind picking up Lundberg if he's around in the 2nd when we pick.

Always the Russian factor that scares teams away and according to bruins fans it looks like he will be going back to Russia this off season

He's a pretty young birthday so he'd have to go back to the OHL next year and can't play in the AHL. Not sure how much more he has to gain from the OHL.

for sure I agree that the KHL is better development than the OHL but at the same time they're making more money which might make him want to stay there. They make more cash down there then their 3 year entry level deal in the NHL

Really? That's fairly surprising. Although he doesn't have much more to prove at the OHL.

Are you sure he isn't just going back to play against men and then come back next year? He's too young for the AHL, not good enough for the NHL and too good for the OHL. Maybe he wants to gain some experience in a better league.

From what I was reading his dad was named a GM down there and he wanted to play for him.

Anyone but I feel it's more and more probable that the Pens will draft a goalie in the first few rounds, now with the Vokoun signing?

I don't see it in the 1st but could see it with the 2nd especially if one of Dansk, Subban or Vasilevski are available.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I don't see them taking a goaltender in the first round, but if one of the three are still available in the second round, i'd jump on that.

agreed that I don't see us taking one with our 1st. Also if those goalies are available with our 2nd, i'd be 1 happy guy, especially Dansk or Subban

If we do pick one with our 1st, I do think the Pens will try to move Fleury if not this year then next

I didn't realize the NHL did all sorts of tests on the draft prospects at the combine, it seems a bit more comprehensive than the NFL one. http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=8...id=DL|WPG|home if interested in taking a peak.

Seems like another poor example of the supposed Russian factor. Basically it's Henrik Samuelsson going to MODO with his dad, had that panned out no one would be talking about it today.

It's very comprehensive and you can't cheat on the bench press unlike at the NFL combine.
