Sabres' Rick Jeanneret will be inducted into Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame

Quote:
The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame will introduce 14 new members Wednesday, and longtime Sabres play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret will headline the list.

Jeanneret, the longest-tenured announcer in the NHL, has been working Sabres games since the 1971-72 season. He will speak on behalf of the hall's 22nd induction class at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Niagara Center atrium.

Thankfully, if the Sabres ever make the finals and/or win while Jeanneret is still around, fans will be able to hear his call of the games on the radio.

Here, in LA, most long-time Kings fans are upset that announcer Bob Miller (who's been doing Kings games for almost as long as Jeanneret has done Sabre games) won't even be able to call the Cup final games on the regular LA radio station that covers the team. Unlike the Sabres, the Kings have a different broadcast team for the TV coverage than they have for the radio.

And Miller's in the HHoF.

But because of the contracts the NHL has only the local markets (Those receiving MSG) will end up seeing it.

If the Sabres made it to the Finals, Buffalonians would be forced to watch the national network coverage just like everyone else - MSG would be not showing any games beyond the 2nd round.

My point was that Sabres' fans would have the ability to listen to RJ on the radio for all the games - which Kings' fans don't presently have with Miller.

Right. I already mute the TV on national broadcasts if the delay isn't terrible. For the people with DVRs it's even easier to sync.
