The Prospect Stats thread is full, so maybe this could continue the conversation about current Oiler prospects during the offseason, starting with the news that the Oilers aren't looking to sign Jeremie Blain and Drew Czerwonka by Friday's deadline.
I don't understand not signing Blaine, if we are too close to the cap get rid of Peckham and Plante as they don't offer us anything. Blaine is still young and developing.

Plante and Peckham are still developing too. Especially Plante, he went from a no name guy to an AHL all-star.
Blain has more than enough potential to warrant a contract from the Oilers. He is a big body who can put up points from the backend. Not to mention he is also a right handed shot. I think they are making a mistake if they don't sign this guy and let him walk for nothing. For an organization that gave Abney a contract, Blain should be a no-brainer.
Is there any chance the Oilers sign Tulupov? Was wondering myself this morning if the reason they decided not to sign Czerwonka and Blain was because they were leaving a spot open for him. I think it's unlikely but was wondering if anyone else has any insight.

By all accounts he was a healthy scratch at the AHL level for at least half the season. I really doubt he gets another contract, but I've been wrong before.

Pretty much. Seemed to have a solid sets of skills, they just weren't good enough.

They'll probably give him another AHL contract, can't hurt, and when the injuries come, he's right there, plus he's a fan favourite.
I'll obviously be keeping an eye on this thread... but in my experience, in a threat titled "Offseason Prospect Thread", no news is generally good news.
If you can't see that he is making improvements then your word is probably going to become worth nothing on prospects. The guy was an AHL all-star, maybe it means very little, but in the end he wasn't one in 10-11, so obviously he is improving.
16 year old B7 players are still improving...does that make them prospects?
shcremp was still improving when we let him go. omark is still improving.
improving=/=prospect.
plante has no future in the NHL. even in an extremely limited role his team would be punished for having him.
Plante looked better than Teubert in his short stint with the Oilers last year IMO. He's improved a lot in the past couple years. I think he could have a future as a bottom pairing defenseman in the NHL.
Plante, at very least is a very good AHL defenseman.
More than worth while to keep around...
I agree. On an AHL contract.

I don't think so. Plante can't go a period without someone beating him wide.

I didn't see him get beat wide once in the two games he played last year. It's obviously a very small sample size though and I know he was absolutely brutal in years past. I don't see neither Teubert nor Plante amounting to much at all, but I was more impressed with Plante this past year.
