What should the Habs do with our 1st pick?

I wanna know what people around here think the Habs should do, not what you think they will do. In other words, what would you do if you were GM?

Stay put and draft the best player at 3rd.

I like our options at 3rd overall. At forward, there are at least 4 very good options that most likely won't be there at 8th+ and that are, according to the "consensus" (which will most likely not look that great in hindsight but we have to live in the now), better prospects than the rest of the draft.

So unless Timmins is really gunning for a specific guy who isn't there at 3rd overall, I think we'll stay put, and I'll feel safer if we did. As far as I'm concerned, I'm very happy we finally have some good picks in the second round, which, with our scouting staff, is a gold mine. Let's keep them instead of using them to move up 2 positions.

We'll draft the BPA. I can't see them trading the pick.

If they can't trade up for #1 to take Yakupov take the BPA @ #3.. Hopefully take one of Galchenyuk or Forsberg @ #3..

BTW.. Why is the out of town thread closed?

Yeah, he's also my pick at 3rd (unless Yakupov's not gone), but his knee!!!! So young already to have that kinda injury. I know Wiz lived a similar situation, and even worse, still, Gally's a gamble.

They will get a very good player at #3. Unless they can trade up pretty cheap, it's not worth it.

Keep the pick and draft a centreman. Yes, I am not that high on drafting Forsberg, and part of that is the fact that this team has not had a no. 1 centreman in ages.

Stay put, and draft the best possible player at 3rd.

I like Forsberg the most, Galchenyuk after him, finally Grigorenko. I have the 3 very close, actually, and may waiver between Grigorenko and Galchenyuk. So, depending on the first two selected:

1. Yak
2. Galchenyuk
3. Forsberg

1. Yak
2. Forsberg
3. Galchenyuk

1. Yak/Murray
2. Yak/Murray
3. Forsberg

I'd stay put, although historically and statistically top 2 picks in two horse races for 1st overall pick are pretty much guaranteed stars (while 3rd overall picks have enjoyed relatively less success), and a 3rd overall pick is as much as a team could hope to have as leverage in a deal to move up without having to add much else.

What would one have to add to an (X-1)th overall to get into the top X picks when there are X "consensus candidates" for 1st overall?

1. Yakupov
2. Galchenyuk

We should trade up, if the cost is reasonable and that's the problem.

I would like Forsberg. Seems like the safest pick (not for the whole Russian factor, I mean in terms of skill and potential). I think he could be a really important piece to the team.

Man... We'll never agree on a pick. Can you imagine when we'll all go to the podium to make the pick? We'll start arguing and never end up making a choice.

I am sure we would have a fight at the podium.

If this GM is as good as they say he is then he should be able to shock and amaze me, so here goes......

Find a way to draft Yakupov and land Nash at the same draft and i'm dumbfounded and impressed if he falls short on either then Bergevin is just a wannabe that may never be......
