I honestly think we are getting closer here. Leaf fans won't like it, nor will most Canuck fans, but I think that is pretty fair for both sides.
I think if you ignore the Canucks fans who say Schenn is a bum and ignore the Leafs fans who say Luongo is garbage and his contract is the worst ever then it helps both teams out without either team destroying their future and or current roster.

The only issue I have with this trade is that Kadri doesn't really help us win now, and if we're giving you schroder, I really want Lupul in return. Id be willing to upgrade our 2nd round to a 1st, to make up the different between Kadri who would be more important to your rebuilding efforts and Lupul who can provide Vancouver with immediate scoring help on the 2nd line with Kesler and Booth

I think you win dude. I think you got the leaf fans to accept that trade. Pretty close anyways.

Name me the last time a team trading a "stud" goalie ended up with good returns.
Varlamov garnered a 1st + 2nd.
Halak garnered a top 6 forward prospect and Ian Cole
Luongo garnered arguably one of the best PWF at the time in the game.
Should I go on?
We already know that the translation is incorrect, so pay no attention to the title, but rather this excerpt. I'll even bold for you
"Luongo, 33, lost his starting job to Cory Schneider during the playoffs and told reporters in his exit interviews April 24 that he would waive his no-trade clause if that is what best suited the club.
“Yeah, of course, if they ask me to,” Luongo said. “I don't want to be one of those guys who is going to stand in the way of anything. I always want to put the team ahead of me. I don't want to be one of those selfish guys.
“Obviously they have a guy here who is going to be a superstar in this league for the next 10, 12, 15 years so I'm okay with it. It is a business and that's the way it goes. I've loved being here the last six years. If I'm here in the future, then great. If I'm not, that's good also.”
In fairness, Kypreos tweeted the above the day after Luongo`s above interview, and just hours after his exit interview. Just for clarification.
we will agree to disagree then. Kadri does nothing for us. Schroeder is our highest rated prospect that is the most NHL ready at the moment.
Schenn, while I believe will flourish in Vancouver, is a reclamation project and will need to live up to his billing as a top 5 pick. Aston helps the 4th line, however, that was still not the primary problem for Vancouver during this years playoffs along with the SCF.
I'd like to see a 1st round pick coming pack in a Luongo deal (not expecting the 5th overall).
Then, in true Gillis fashion, that pick flipped with Ballard or Raymond to move up in the draft. Then that pick moved up with whoever is remaining of Ballard and Raymond to move up yet again.
I posted both these already, but maybe Leafs fans could give some input?
(really just trying to go somewhere between Komi + 7th rounder and Gardiner + 5th overall)
Toronto
Roberto Luongo
2nd Round Pick
Vancouver
Luke Schenn
Nikolai Kulemin
Carter Ashton
OR
Toronto
Luke Schenn
Nazem Kadri
Carter Ashton
Vancouver
Roberto Luongo
Jordan Schroeder
2nd Round Pick

A man can dream.
Sucks that the draft is before July 1. If Luongo netted Schenn, and Garrison does infact sign in Vancouver as it is his first choice, then Ballard is expendable. and I could see Gillis doing that. But without a guarantee that Garrison and/or Schultz will sign in Vancouver, Ballard needs to stay put and that's not a bad thing either, he's improving every year and has become very consistent
What. Yes. Unlike you, I actually want a cup in Vancouver.
If you think about it, the return on Luongo is similar to what he fetched 6 years ago.
Luke Schenn = Bryan Allen
Joffrey Lupul = Todd Bertuzzi
Carter Ashton doesn't really = Alex Auld, but whatever.
and Toronto
Roberto Luongo = Roberto Luongo
Jordan Schroeder = Lucas Krajcek
6th round < 1st round. But again, Toronto needs something to entice them to break up their best tandem.

I am still not a fan of bringing Lu here, but the second one seems like fair value...maybe the first.

How in the hell is Lupul anything similar to Bertuzzi? Bertuzzi was an elite PWF at the time of the trade and Lupul is NO WHERE close to him. Bertuzzi could single handedly take over games. Lupul doesn't have that ability and never will. He's a good complimentary player.
I'm just going to stop there because you comparing Lupul to Bertuzzi was extremely laughable. Especially when Bertuzzi was an elite PWF.
Thanks for breaking it down and showing me what you know. Not much.
Luke Schenn is not a good defenseman. The Leafs gave up more shots against when Schenn was on the ice than any other defenseman. The Leafs gave up more goals against when Schenn was on the ice than any other defenseman.
He took twice as many penalties as he drew.
He earned less even-strength ice time per game than Mike Komisarek, and was just a single second ahead of Franson.
Of all 87 defensemen who have played 400+ minutes shorthanded over the last 3 season, Schenn is dead last in goals against/minute by a huge margin.
He hits, he blocks shots, he has drive, and a lot of time to mature and grow into a good defensemen.. but he's not there yet and right now it's very unlikely he plays at the level his cap hit suggests this season. Would not acquire him.
Also, Lupul is bad. Adding him to an NHL roster is like adding someone who will contribute 25 goals for and 35 goals against.
