The Habs don't exactly need a RW with Leblanc ready for 3rd-line duty in the NHL and with Cole and Gionta but it wouldn't hurt to have Leblanc spend a year in the AHL improving his offensive game and shot-generation. Jagr can still play and as long as you keep him away from the matchups Plekanec gets he'll probably produce.

Of course, if Cole can be an effective left-winger then it's definitely a no-brainer. Signing Jagr would be nice but unless Cole can shift to the other side without affecting his performance there would still be a gaping LW role in the top-6.

We said all year that Plekanec needs a winger. We can get one for about 2M$ that can probably give us 50 pts which is good for a 2nd line winger. Healthy Markov+Jagr, our PP should be fixed.

With the cap at 70 (with a middle point of 62), the middle-point average salary will be 2,7 mil (3,1 on a full cap), so I wouldn't be surprised if Jagr signed for that much.

I want him even if he doesn't play that well just for the awesomeness and jersey-buying factor.

Jagr would have sold millions of dollars in Jersey's alone .....Darche? about $1600 worth ...

Would it be out of the question to think Jagr jersey sales of 10,000 in Montreal? if so at 200 a pop , that's 2 million dollars.
You are a special poster... special is the right word, yes?

Jagr would be a fine option. I was worried about possible distractions with him last season, but he put the team first in philly and I'm sure he would do the same here. Hard to believe he'd want to leave philly though.

Would be a nice fit for 1 or 2 years until Gallagher LeBlanc and Kristo are ready.

I think people needs to remember that too.

Marc said he WON'T be rushing young guys....they will be DEVELOPED.

I'd be very surprised if Leblanc and Gallager make this team next yr,or the top 3 pick we take , will all be off Habs roster this year IMHO.

If Jagr's interested I'd sign him for 2.5 - 3mill...

Also, I know he hasn't done well the last 2 or 3 years...but i'd like to see Kovalev try out for the team....

We might be stuck with Gomez for at least another year...if so I'd sit him down as a coach and say "ok, forget about playing offence...forget about the 7mil you're making...I want you to play shutdown hockey!" Have him as the shutdown center...I believe he's done it before....

Cole (4.5) - Desharnais (0.850) - Paciorretti (1.625)

Jagr (3) - Plekanec (5) - Kovalev (1.5)

Moen (1.75) - Gomez (7,357,143) - Gionta (5)

Bourque (3,333,333) - Eller (1,750,000) - White (950k)

Staubitz (750k)

FORWARDS - $37,365,476

Markov (5.75) - Emelin (2)

Subban (4.5) - Gorges (3.9)

Kaberlei (4.25) - Diaz (1.5)

DEFENSE - $21,900,000

Price (5.25)

Budaj (1.15)

GOALIE - $6,400,000

TOTAL: $65,665,476

SALARY Cap is $70,300,000

Cap Available: $4,634,524

It leaves us with some room to sign a decent defenseman...however, if we could somehow get rid of Gomez's Contract (amnesty buyout or send to minors)...that would give us $11,991,667 in available cap space....
enough to possibly throw $7mill at Ryan Suter

...which then we would need to look at a 3rd/4th line center

Don't rush Leblanc. He proved he is good enough for the NHL. Let him play as a star in Hamilton and call him when we get a real hole in the lineup.

Don't count on him immediately as a member of the lineup.

Sign Jagr. He's a good addition, low risk, high reward.

Not sure he's a good option to play with Plekanec. Maybe on the PP, but I don't think Jagr can handle top line duties anymore.
On the 2nd or 3rd line next to DD or Eller though, no problem.

Is the line MaxPac+DD+Cole is our defacto 1st line?

The best part of signing Have is that you don't have to lock him up for 5 or 10 years like other top UFAs.

He would be low risk because it would likely be a one year deal. Insert him on the swims line with Gionta and Pleks.

I am all for it.

I hope not. It shouldn't even have been last year.
Plekanec is our top center. Whoever plays with him will make up the first line trio.

MaxPac can stick with DD. He's had enough time to pick up good pointers from Cole, and he's been playing along side DD for a couple of years. No need in breaking those two up.
Cole should be used on Plekanec's wing to shutdown the top opponents.
I'm also hoping Gionta gets placed on Eller's wing as I think he'd complete him well versus weaker opposition.
Then you need to fill in the slots with Bourque and whoever else is brought in. Ideally we get another solid winger for Plek. Bourque can be tried along side DD, and then we can sign another depth winger or let Palushaj/Leblanc/Geoffrion duke it out.

And yes Gauthier got Cole, but Cole wanted to come to Montreal anyway .

I do believe Jagr wants to come to Montreal, but not for chump change Gauthier might have offered.
Cole's first choice was to stay in Carolina but Habs offered better contract which included a 4th season (Canes offered 3 year deal). He may have been the best UFA signing of 2011....gotta give Gauthier some props for that signing as difficult as it to compliment him.

Signing Jagr for one season wouldn't hurt a methodical rebuilding program. In fact, it would help by allowing his potential replacement time to gain more experience.

Brian Gionta is the guy we should thank for Cole.

Quote:
Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier didn't have to work hard to sell Erik Cole on the idea of playing in Montreal.

"I've always enjoyed playing in Montreal," said Cole, who signed a four-year, $18-million contract on the opening day of the free-agent market Friday. "As soon as you set foot in the city, you can feel the excitement."
Quote:
Cole said he talked with Canadiens' captain Brian Gionta - they were teammates for Team USA at the 2006 Olympics - after receiving the Canadiens' offer.

"We talked about the city and how his family adjusted and he had nothing but positive things to say about the city, the team and the organization," Cole said. "I think most of the players in the league would agree that Montreal is their favourite road city."
