I've said it before and I will say it again, I'm really really disappointed by this decision.

I think you mean "give him a second chance".

Well... it's already much better than Cunnyworth or Crawford.

I don't agree with this choice, though.

Indeed. He was a feared coach in Pittsburgh. Not the kind of coach you actually want to play for.

Quote:
And Therrien is culpable, too. He alienated players with his approach to interpersonal relationships and, while no one has to like his or her boss to work hard at their job and do it effectively, motivating subordinates primarily through fear and verbal abuse isn't likely to make them willing to go through a wall for the boss.

Bylsma isn't as in-your-face and caustic with players as Therrien could be, but, when he sees something he doesn't like, he makes it known. "He's a teaching coach," Player 2 said. "If something goes wrong, he's going to teach a guy the right away, as opposed to just kicking and screaming and yelling at him and not have a guy know what's going on."
http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...46598/?print=1
Quote:
Bylsma is, by nature, more upbeat and outgoing than Therrien. One player recalled being struck by the symbolism and substance of seeing the door to the head coach's office propped open when he reported to Mellon Arena for the first practice of the Bylsma era.
http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...36029/?print=1
Quote:
Bylsma also took a decidedly different approach to relationships with his personnel. Players say Therrien would berate at least some guys when he was displeased with them; Bylsma wasn't afraid to point out mistakes, but was more tactful and positive about it.
http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...46598/?print=1

That being said, many also said he brought much needed structure and discipline to the young Pittsburgh team that contributed considerably to their successes. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Gaston Therrien is not his brother.

Couldn't care less, go watch a bunch of Pat Burns vids from when he was in Montreal. Don't tell me you wouldn't want him back. In Montreal it's almost a tradition for every coach to pull a show in front of the cameras and we looooove it

We picked the best time to hire a new GM, but the worst time to hire a new coach.

Just to get my opinion on the record so I can be chastised years later ..

I am not jumping up and down, but I am not crying either or looking for a 2nd team. I don't think Crawford has anything on Therrien tbh, so if those were the choices we were down to, I wouldn't have minded either one. Both come with a past and baggage ..

I hope Therrien has learnt from his mistakes in terms of his relationships with players, his comments on television seemed to be more rational and hockey related than anybody else on AC and less emotional ...

Good luck Michel.

I get what you're saying though. Again, lets just hope to God Therrien has worked on some things. If he is still the coach he used to be... this could be another loooong, painfully boring season filled with unmotivated players.

Indeed, thanks to Gauthier.
(Why firing Martin that easily after letting walk both Boucher and Muller is still hard to understand right now...)

Still...we're talking about a guy that coached a team that was basically as bad (outshot, outchanced, dominated with the puck etc...) as we were (with Carbonneau) at the time with the Penguins.

With Crosby and Malkin scoring over 100 points (or had the pace to) during the season.

I believe that 30-35 coaches have been fired since. A good half of their replacements came, i think, from within their respective organization. But for the other half, i dont remember Therrien being a potential candidate once.

Give the guy a chance ?
Well, Bergevin blew his first one as far as i'm concerned.
I cant believe that there isnt a better option somewhere. I hardly think so.

One this is sure : If he thought that the Pens D was soft when he took over , just wait until he has to deal with the Kaberle , Weber , Diaz ect of this world.

This should be entertaining

To all the people throwing around fbombs and posturing that they're truer fans for 'giving him a chance'. Some of us already 'gave him a chance' once and it did not work. This was not what the team needed.
