Olli Jokinen

Should the Panthers consider signing him as a UFA?

Discuss.

This team is far different than when he left. I'm really skittish about the idea, but as long as we're not looking for him in a leadership role and it's for the right price, it probably wouldn't be a bad acquisition.

2 years, 6 million frontloaded [4-2], caphit 3 million.

Hell, I don't really care how much he gets as long it isn't too many years.

My opinion has changed too. I can't imagine this happening a year or so ago.

Plain and simple: Weiss needs help up the middle from a 2C veteran player (1-2 years max).

Flames fan coming in peace just to let you know the general thought of Flames fans is he is looking for 4+ years (aka a retirement contract). I don't know if that changes your opinions at all but it is what has us divided.

Is that what has you divided? I thought it would have something to do with never being a clutch player.

Olli still has a house down here. Maybe he'll take a discount to come back? I wouldn't offer him more than 2 years max though.

I'd still prefer to not have this guy back in a Panthers jersey. I would exhaust all other options before trying to sign Jokinen. And if there was mutual interest between both parties it'd have to be 2 yrs maximum imo. Still not a fan of this idea.

Is this really our only option? Stephen Weiss is our second line center. Dale Tallon did a good job getting secondary scoring last summer. This summer it has to be alll about elite talent. Id rather roll the same lineup this year and fail at attempting to acquire a first line center than bring in another secondary player. We need elite talent and im willing to wait for it.

I agree.....at the right price in a non-leadership role I believe Jokinen good be a plus for this team...if he comes with the right mindset, would hate to have him have the negative influence on Hubby that many felt he had on Horton

Tallon needs players to bridge the gap until the kids are ready.

If Huberdeau isn't ready to be a 2C, then someone needs to fill that role for a season or two.

I say YES. Much like the rest of my fellow fans, as long as its right price and length I say yes. Olli was our leading scorer while here and he doesn't have the same ... Anything. New team. New coach. New GM. I think he'll do well here

+ New attitude. He has become a different man in Calgary, and not only play-wise.

I hope not.

If this team can be managed like EA NHL 2013 or some other video game, then sure just slot him in the 2C role so his 90+ rated shooting skills can compliment Huberdeau.

Unfortunately that's not how things work. Players have personalities, and his personality does not fit with this team. I've heard the stories of how he has changed and has matured, but I don't believe someone could have changed THAT much and I do not want his attitude back.

I believe our greatest need is at center above all else, but even so, I'd rather pass on another turn with Olli.

Isn't Olli the classic no-character type? I don't see how that meshes with Tallon's high-character philosophy. I say no. I'd rather add a 2nd/3rd line center high character type player with a short contract as a hold over for 1-3 years than bring in a bad apple.

I don't normally do this, but...

I guarantee Tallon doesn't want Olli Jokinen. You can all make fun of me for saying this if he does indeed sign here.

Jokinen = everything Tallon doesn't like about a player.

Me too, but I'm looking at bang for the buck here.

Look, Jokinen is far from perfect... but if you want a veteran top 6 center who you could possibly sign short term for a reasonable rate... the list begins and ends with Jokinen.

Rather go the trade route, just not interested in anything Jokinen. He's had a good year or two, but it's not enough for me.

Wouldn't shock me to see Tallon pull a big move to get us a top 6 center.

We simply cannot (IMO) go into next season without another top 6 center.

Weiss is a very good (not great) player, but if he is injured for a long stretch, there is no way (unless Huberdeau knocks the doors off in his 1st NHL season at center) that this team can make the playoffs.
