This is what I'd like to see.

I was thinking the same. Put it on the 149 card instead of the Fuel card. Add in Shogun/Bonnar and that's a pretty good main card for Calgary's first event.

I'm glad they didn't go with this one. It would have been a terribly boring fight with Simpson just taking him down for 15 minutes.

That's some real shocking news right there.

Is Condit actually saying he might agree to defend the interim title?

I'd rather see him fight Hendricks, but good on Condit for smartening up and defending the belt.

What is wrong with just having a #1 contender and having him defend his status for the Champ fight, instead of the cheezy fake belts.

Then if the Champ can't fight either hold a Grand Prix or have the #1 contender fight the next in the ranking.

In speaking with the director of BJPENN.COM, and after contemplating the matchup and possible return to action with his advisors, BJ Penn issued the following response to Rory MacDonald…

“Rory, I accept your challenge!”

Now all that is left is to get the UFC on board and put “Penn” to paper.

The bout is proposed for the UFC’s return to Toronto, Ontario Canada on September 22 for UFC 152. No venue has been selected at this time.

BJ Penn will be a guest this Thursday on our very own “Just Scrap Radio” to discuss his return to action. Tune in on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET right here on BJPENN.COM.

Verbal agreements are in place to see WW Rory MacDonald vs BJ Penn at UFC 152, September 22nd in Toronto.
I want BJ to fight at LW again but if this is what it takes for him to come back, so be it. BJ is too small and I don't think this fight will go too well for him but I'm looking forward to seeing two of my favourite fighters go at it.

BJ is going to get destroyed. This is the perfect matchup for the UFC and Rory Mac.

Great fight, this could be the one that puts Rory over if he puts on a good performance.

This. This to me will be the fight that exposes Rory to the more casual fan who might not know him yet and start that push to being one of the true stars in this sport.

It's a fight that will expose Rory to casual fans but it isn't going to be competitive in the least.

Not sure why this is the fight that convinces BJ to keep fighting. I guess he likes getting beat up?

UFC probably manufactured this. Makes no sense for BJ at all.

BJ is a top 10 WW, I think it's a bit silly to write the fight off as "not competitive".

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm a big BJ Penn fan.

He isn't a top ten WW, I don't know how anybody could rank him at all. The last fight at 170 he won was against a shot Matt Hughes, before that...he hadn't won a fight at 170 in the UFC since 2004. And when it's not competitive, we'll see how you feel about that. I have minimal interest in seeing one of my favorite fighters get beaten half to death in a fight that's going to be sold as a really competitive bout.

I hope it's going to be competitive, but it's not.

Its an odd fight for BJ to take.

I'm a fan of both guys, but hopefully Rory can continue his ascent.

We're talking about BJ Penn here. He made fights with Nick Diaz & Jon Fitch "competitive", I don't see why you guys think this will be any different.

Yes Rory is the favourite, but this is not a squash match.

BJ got massacred in the final two rounds against Diaz. This is the ideal fight for the UFC to showcase the new breed.

Exactly. Penn has a large advantage on the feet if he can find a way to keep it there. Great test for MacDonald.

Rory has almost nothing in common with Diaz stylistically.

It has the potential to be a great fight. BJ is not going to be a minor bump for Rory, Hes good on his feet and is no slouch on the ground. Can't wait.
