There is a rumor circulating the internet that the Leafs might trade up for Nail Yakupov and for Alex Galenchyuk. The other possiblity is the Canadiens trading to draft Yakupov and then drafting Galenchyuk. I doubt this happens as the Canadiens are not in as much supply at defense as the Leafs. If the Leafs can do perhaps Schenn + prospect for the 1st OVR and then trade up for the 3rd, I believe that Burke could be able to pull off what he did with the Sedin twins, except with Yakupov and Galenchyuk. Thoughts?
If Burke was able to trade Schenn plus any combo of Leafs prospects for first overall they would have to make an episode of Law and Order SVU about the trade.
Those are only some of the younger names that come to mind.....
CBJ are going to want alot and EDM will want alot......
Mayby not worth it for TOR.....They will get a good player where they are.
Burke does have the fact that he got the Sedin sisters in his back pocket....so who knows, atleast TOR fans know they have a GM that will explore options like that...
"[Oilers GM Steve] Tambellini told me: 'We like him [Yakupov]. We want him. But we're going to make a decision the day before the draft'. I also know the Habs want to get one of my guys — either Nail or Alex [Galchenyuk]. So do the Leafs. It is possible that the Leafs are going to trade their draft pick and get both of them. There is a possibility like that. Nail and Alex went to New Jersey for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. After this they met Leafs GM Brian Burke. Then Nail met with the Habs."

I didn't think this thread would be finished after just one post. Well done.
I'd think they'd want a D who either is a top pairing D or with top pairing potential.
So Phaneuf or Gardiner would have to be on the table. But neither of these are worth the 1st overall by themselves. So if the Leafs were to do this, I think it'd be something like:
Phaneuf + 2013 1st for 1st overall pick 2012. It's comparable to the McCabe + 2000 1st that got Vancouver the 1st overall pick in 1999.

there is also talk among CBJ draft crazies that the CBJ will in fact take a look at this or something like it to move to add an additional top pick in the draft

Calling it right now, comment of the day. Everyone else, move along.

Reason: ...
Burke simply just doesn't have the assets to pull this off. He would have to add significantly to #5 to get the 1st overall, and that leaves him with nothing to get the 2nd or 3rd overall picks.
Oilers get Phaneuf, Kadri and TO's 1st pick 2013
Toronto gets Oiler's 1st pick 2012 - drafts Nail
Columbus gets MacArthur and TO's 1st pick 2012 (#5)
Toronto get Columbus' 1st pick 2012 - drafts Gally
Just like Burkie did in getting both Sedins. Is it possible??
Unfortunately most Oilers fans think they should get the equivalent of four 1st round picks for Yukopov, who from what I've heard isn't even a franchise player.
