For the 1st overall pick (with the Leafs' 5th overall pick not on the table), I think the Oilers ask for Gardiner + Schenn + TOR 2013 1st. Is it worth losing Gardiner (bluechip), Schenn (promising young defenseman) and next year's pick (Burke has no idea where the Leafs will draft - he doesn't want a repeat of the Kessel trade) to get Yakupov?
Agreed, if Yakupov was a center, I would maybe do it, it would at least get my interest and I would think about it. But Yakupov is a winger, we already have a high scoring winger in Kessel. I personally don't feel the need to get Yakupov unless we somehow get a #1 center as well. But getting both in a matter of weeks seems highly unlikely.

I don't know my guess is that is worth it if Burke thinks he is the lead horse in the Schultz derby. He also doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that is afraid because of the past to do something bold in the future. Problem with this report is he has to be certain the other Russian falls, something I am not sure of.

They won't get a chance to get Gal with the 5th so that means they need to trade up to the 2/3 AND trade for the 1st. I just don't see them having the available assets to come near that.

If the rumors are true about Leafs getting Luongo, then I can see this happening and giving up a 2013 first round pick. Otherwise, I just don't see Burke doing it since the team won't be drastically improved. If I'm Edmonton, Schenn is a must, 2013 is a must. Kadri is a good possibility but what else would it take? Though, again, I suppose if they get Luongo, what about Reimer? Schenn, 2013 first, Kadri and Reimer?

Even then, at 5th overall, there is no guarentee Galchenyuk will be there. I see Habs taking Grigs or Gally. They need a center. Same situation as Leafs really. I see one getting Gally, the other getting Grigs, it really depends on Montreal.

I think Columbus takes Murray 2nd overall. Isles might opt for a winger or dman. I don't see Leafs and Habs dealing so depends what Montreal wants at 3rd.

It says in the same quote that the Habs are interested in one of them as well. Unless they are being naive and assuming Yak will be available you would have to assume they are going after Galchenyuk.

Leafs trading up in general is very possible, but them getting two top 3 picks, ouch, what would the even have to acquiere those?

I think we can file this quote in the "No-**** Sherlock"

Off course Toronto might WANT to acquire 1st overall. But can they afford the cost?

Okay that makes sense. I thought it was just him asking for Karlsson alone. Don't get me wrong, Karlsson is now worth a first overall pick, but last year he wasn't yet.

Kessel for NYI 1st+De Haan?
Schenn+1st 2012+2nd 2012 for EDM 1st 2012+ 3rd 2012?
NYI 1st 2012+ Biggs/Colborne for CLB 1st 2012?

I'd assume you'd need 1st and 3rd then.

Gardiner and 1st 2013 to Edmonton for 1st Overall (Yakupov)
Ashton, 5th overall, 2nd 2012 for 3rd Overall (Galenchyuk)

Not bad.

To Oilers:
Gardiner,Kadri,2013 first
for
To Leafs:
First overall

To Jackets:
5th overall
Schenn

To Leafs
2nd overall

Burke goes out and throws big money at Suter...Oilers have even more confidence in signing Schultz after getting Gardiner.

Suter-Gunner
Dion-Holzer
Liles-Franson

Blacker might make the jump to the big league... would those trade be fair??

Well wasn't he the one who got two back to back top 3 picks for Vancouver? Maybe he could do it again for Toronto? But I doubt it.

Isles would not have interest in Kessel IMO, he wouldn't mesh very well with Tavares, and we need defenseman.

That would mean they're adding something to their 5th overall and that they're moving one or more from the group of Schenn, Gardiner, Kessel, Phaneuf, Kadri, Grabovski, Kulemin, Lupul. I don't see that happening.

Leafs send, Gardiner, Schenn, Colborne, 2013 1st round pick for the 1st overall.

Edm gets two top 4 dmen... Gardiner is their future no.1 stud back there. They get a big centerman..and we all know they need that. and a 1st round pick next year. Fills some series holes on that team.

Leafs send the 5th pick, Kadri, Ashton, for the 2nd overall pick and a 2nd round pick the following year.

CBJ lacks depth. They downgrade 2nd to 5th...but really thats not that big a drop...there are 6 great players in the draft. three forwards three dmen (reilly, dumba, murray)...two russian C's and Yakupov... aside from Yak..the other five are a toss up.
But in compensation for the slight downgrade they get two blue chip prospects..one of which has size (Ashton)....good deal for both.

Leafs do this because they are deep on D and now they have a top line for the next 12 years.

Im not tambellini but to me the 2013 first rounder has low value. Sure it would be good to pull a Boston and get a lottery pick but odds are with Luongo it would be in the mid teens.

Gardiner is awesome but Kadri is redundant/not really needed

Thats not a knock on Kadri but if im trading first overall I want my socks knocked off as Lowe said 2 months ago and Tambellini said on the weekend

Edit: As I was writing this other trades have been written that arent as bad

Breaking news!!!

Possible that Edmonton is going to trade to obtain both Yak and Galchenyuk.

Anything is possible. Maybe Burkie will convince Yakupov not to play anywhere but Toronto. lol.

To Edm: Schenn, Holzer, Colborne, 2013 1st
To TO: 1st overall
So, you want Edmonton to take Schenn as the centerpiece in a trade for first overall?

Where do I sign? Edm takes this and runs. We'll even add Horcoff for free.
