[OFFICIAL] - Around the NHL thread

I think we all know why I am making this.

recent news:

Vokoun traded to Penguins for a 7th round pick in 2012
Vokoun signs 2 year contract @ $2 million per year
Canadiens hire Therrien as head coach

all new news from around the league can go in this thread.

Mods, can we get a sticky on this so certain posters don't flood our board with ever minor NHL transaction?

Really like the Vokoun pickup by the Pens, they will be a force once again if they can solidify their defense a little as well.

And the Habs cant be too happy about having to go to plan B, but they should be happy Crawford didnt get it, the bilingual thing really narrowed/hurt their search imo.

Also pretty intrigued as to what Tarasenko will do in the NHL, see how he lives up to the hype.

A while back, the Hawks signed Johnny Oduya to a three year extension worth $10,150,000 and a modified NTC.

Well that's good news. I really respected Thomas until he started walking away from interviews. Now I just think he's a coward.

Flamesanity?

Flame-sanity-palooza?

Rumor: Flames eyeing potential FAs, tons of cap room (e5)

A little OT: Did anyone get hit bad by the weather last night? I know me and the girlfriend were out by the RAO Observatory and it was pretty terrible driving home to Okotoks.

Eklund: Unknown team fans trading sanity in a package with first line winger for star prospects (e5)

Right, to hockey.

Apparently the Hawks' 2010 35th overall pick, Ludvig Rensfeldt couldn't agree to contract terms, and will be re-entering the draft.

Interesting, wonder what round he will go in. 2nd-3rd round maybe??

This really needs to be addressed in the upcoming CBA and it shouldn't to hard to address either as these guys aren't even NHL players yet when they get drafted. If they don't sign with the team that drafts them there should a suspension of time (ie. 3 years) where they are not eligible to play in the NHL providing the team was ethical in their contract signing process.

Ultimately, if a drafted player fails to sign with the team that drafted them, after the deadline elapses to sign a player I would turn it over to an arbitrator to make the ruling as to whether or not it qualifies for a suspension.

Interesting indeed. I think he'll be drafted again in the second round, HF has him at a 7.0C. An outright suspension doesn't sound like a good idea/fair, in my honest opinion - but turning it over to an arbitrator I think wouldn't be a bad idea.

In other news, though...

Both Tallon and Tambo have got extensions from their respective (ok, just the Panthers) teams.

TSN Article on Tallon's extension
TSN Article on Tambo's extension

I'd like to see something as well - drafted players (from Lindros to Erixon) shouldn't be able to hold their teams hostage like they did.

Blues signed Ty Rattie. http://www.airdrieecho.com/ArticleDi...aspx?e=3579637

Definitely, they addressed the max contract for rookies the last CBA. but they always seem to find a loop hole. Some young gun ex.Erixon should not have the power to control a team like that, pretty ridiculous.
