It's no surprise but why wait so long to do it? Who is behind all these stupid delays in announcing what the team is doing? Is it Katz?

For all the "player haters" that think this is a bad move: remember that it's mathematically theoretically possible for Tambo to have done a worse job over the last three years. If they'd gone 30th 30th 30th I'd demand some kind of accountability, but things are clearly looking up now, for some reason, apparently

They could have been negotiating.

What bothers me is that they didn't announce the term in the press release. It is like they go out of their way to annoy the fans and media.

I'm still on board.

But even he has to know that the pressure starts to shift to him. He has a wonderful core (with hopefully Yakupov this year) to build around. He has to start proving that he can do more than just announce first round draft picks each spring. This team needs a lot of work around the edges. The jury is still out on whether he is up to the task.

It's time to start walking the walk.

This year is definitely the year for Tambo. For years FA's have not wanted to come to Edmonton. Who knows how many deals or FA signings never came to fruition because they simply didn't want to play here?

There's now a huge buzz around this team and FA's are noticing. I will reserve judgement till after the draft and July 1st. Hopefully he can pull a rabbit out of his hat.

As far as OKC goes how many future top 6 forwards/top 4 defenseman/starting goal-tenders do you see there? They were carried by AHL veterans that the Oilers got by overpaying for
I stand by what I posted. If you do not want to give Tambo any credit, fine by me. Doesn't change the way I feel and it will not change my perception of the positives that Tambo has added to the organization from the minors and up. You have the right to your opinion in judging performance and what needs to happen during a rebuild. My opinion differs from yours, and I'll leave it at that.

This was obviously going to happen, not going to get upset about it now. I don't have faith in this management at this point though. They had this past season and it was an abysmal failure... again.

We all will reap the rewards of these planned years of dismal failure. Stop complaining. Tambo hasn't really had a chance to show his worth as the timing hasn't been right to pull major deals. People on here are so anti-management despite the clear vision of tanking they won't even be able to concede any future positives to Tambo.

I don't want Tambellini to get a single ounce of credit when and if (big if) this team ever turns a corner.

Isn't that a good thing? Using a strength of the organization (having money to spend on veteran AHL players) to improve another area that can't be bought (a long playoff run for young prospects to develop post-season experience).

Hmm... Pro Scouting changes?

Maybe Morley Gare is joining his brother in law on the unemployment line?

Not sure where to put this, but with Soli mentioned about Stauffer talking about an internal management change this could very well be what is happening.
I would be very happy with this. The free agents that were brought in have only helped us secure 1st overall draft picks. Flush the crappy pro scouts, as well as Belanger and Eager, and bring in some talent.

As posted previously the length of the contract is irrelevant. If the Oilers are not at least contending for a playoff spot next year, Tambo is gone.

I hope so, but I think it's safe to say that the team underperformed this year, and nothing came of it.

Still weird not to include the term length though.

Still evaluating how long it will be, but they are pretty sure he's renewed.

I really don't know how they underperformed. 50 goals better at the GF-GA ratio, 7 more wins, 12 more points, PP up 24 places, PK up 15 places, 5 on 5 scoring up 7 spots. Seems like the team did pretty good compared to last year.

3 year deal for Tambo. The new coach will get 3 also.

Lots of teams are like that, didn't Gillis's term just get announced even though he signed a month ago?

29th vs 30th. All of those improvements in those stats equated to exactly 1 spot in the standings. 12 points is sort of worthless when you go from by far the worst team in the league to just 2nd worst.

Why not? It's apparent no matter what Tambo does, you will not give him credit. That's a pretty poor attitude if you ask me. Give credit where credit is due. I'm sure the same action was given to you at some point in your life. At least I'd hope it was.

And really what difference would 6 or 7 points have made and took us to 24th or something? We were better off finishing where we did.
