No- I stay with Red Line, just will do more writing and editing than scouting. But you never know- I find ways to get to hockey games, so I just might be able to get some viewings in.

Then, this past fall, saw him playing T1 midget with the GBL Bruins and he looked even better in terms of his mobility, when he was activating and his overall two-way game.

Usually, kids his size are still very much in the gangly stage and awkward. He's going to be a polished, effectively swift guy as a freshman at Yale. Would not surprise me if he earns some attention and accolades right off the bat. Mature beyond his years and just a great kid/great family.

Introduced Bri to his mom and dad-- he can vouch for that.
Sat next to his Dad at the Camp and talked about how Rob was an Isles fan growing up. Also about draft day and how they kept refreshing the ESPN page (same thing I was doing ) to see where he had gone. Said they were a little worried because they heard VAN (who picked right before the B's) was interested. Not that he didn't like the Nucks, but was concerned about the geography, lol.

Seemed like a great guy.

Those days of free info are done, man.

I did secure the domain rights to "NHL Draft Watch" however, so you never know.

Consider it vouched! And, I know you can't tell from a conversation in a rink, but his parents seem like top notch people.

And Kirk will vouch for me, when he asked me who I liked I said, "Trotman." (Obviously there were guys who stood out more, but I was picking from the guys I hadn't heard much/ read much about. Humor me...I like to pretend that I'd be good at evaluating prospects. )

Brief reference to Florek and Ferlin on TSN`s Off Season Game Plan here, as someone who hasn`t had the chance to watch/see either, could someone provide me with a bit of insight as to their strengths/weaknesses etc......much appreciated, love Florek`s size, hardly tells the story though

I watched both of them at last year's development camp...so it was a while ago, but here are my notes.

Florek
Strengths - Great size, projectable frame and good wingspan. Good puck control and a very hard accurate shot that he can release from anywhere. The Spooner, Ferlin and florek line was the best line during the scrimmages. Florek scored a few goals from the slot, roofing the puck over Volden's shoulder. He has good straight line speed and is effective on the rush.

Weaknesses - Not very agile. Has a bit of a lumbering stride and won't win any stickhandling competitions. Could be more physical...though he is very good in the corners.

Ferlin
Strengths - Very effective in the corners. Strong lower bodey makes him hard to knock off the puck. Wins most puck battles and can maneuver in tight to make a play in traffic. Has excellent hockey sense in the offensive zone and seems equally adept at scoring and playmaking. Deceptive speed despite an awkward skating stride.

Weaknesses - Not sure about his top end speed or one on one skills. Needs to pay more attention in the defensive zone. Could work on getting his shots off earlier.

All this being said...I like both of them as prospects. Not bad at all for late round picks. Of the two, Ferlin definitely has a better shot at a top 6 role...but Florek might be in the NHL sooner with his size and oveall game. He's like a tougher, less elusive, less talented Blake Wheeler.

Thanks for all the info SOD, much appreciated, I seemed to recall that when reading about Dev`p camp both names seemed to pop up frequently with positive reactions/quotes from many about them both.

You're very welcome. I am looking forward to seeing more of these two next season. Ferlin was off to a great start at Cornell...and Florek was putting up a lot of PP points at Northern Michigan.

I thought he wouldn't grow anymore? To add to that, if he's at 6'6 he's going to have to gain a lot of weight. Hit the gym Dougie!

he could continue to grow until he's 21 !!! Let's hope he hits Chara's 6'11 and adds some much needed muscle.

Ryan Spooner tweeted to Kirk that he's up to 5'11 now after a recent physical. Last I read he was 5'9.5

That'd be terrific. 5'11 seems like the watermark for no longer being a "small" player. For example, I wouldn't call Zach Parise or Sidney Crosby small players.

Spooner is a gem for this organization.

Didn't see it anywhere here, but I saw on twitter Chia said Koko will be at development camp and his plans for the near future will be announced there I guess. As far as I'm concerned I feel like this is good news for the time being.
