Nice to see, but a left handed hitting LFer isn't hurting this team right now.
In 9 games pitched they have only scored 30 runs for him and 10 of them came 1 game. Unless they are bringing Papelbon in who wasnt even up I leave him in favor of Qualls.

I disagree about Brown, any offense they could get would be nice.

This was probably the mildest bench clearing I have ever seen.

I sincerely hope you're right... I've always been guilty of pessimism with regard to my sports teams. I'll hold out final judgment until I see what the team is like with everyone healthy -- if we get that lucky -- but I just get that ominous feeling in my gut.

The problem is Brown plays LF. So who do you sit? We know that players that should sit, but Charlie would never go for that. He'd sit Pierre down, no matter how often he's getting on base, before Pence, no matter how often he's leaving people stranded.

Kendrick is pitching tonight. What should we expect? I'm expecting a bad game from him.

No question he hasn't gotten any run support, but last night he had nothing left in the tank going into the 8th. After 1 or 2 hitters he should have been out of that game and a good manager would have done just that.

Except that Pierre is hitting .330. IMO he should be playing everyday including against LHPs in the leadoff spot. However, just because Brown is lighting up AAA doesn't mean he will do the same if called up. I'm good with him lighting it up down there, increasing his trade value and unloading him at the deadline.

If Brown continues to hit well over the next few weeks and they continue to struggle, they should call him up. One of the problems with this team is that they are old, slow, and lack power. That is not a good combination for scoring runs, Brown is the opposite of all 3 of things. Id think about platooning him with Pierre in LF as Pierre is better against lefties than righties.

I dont want to trade him, I dont see this team competing this year so I dont want them making any desperate moves. Id like to keep Brown, and hopefully he will be able to make some type of impact for this team towards the end of the season. Hell, they could even call him up this week for the road trip to American League parks as I would take him over Wigginton or Thome at this point. But in agreement with you about Pierre right now.

the phillies don't understand the concept of getting on base and just getting base hits. why does it seem like they all swing for the fences?

I can stomach this season a little easier because 08 is fresh in my mind. But yeah, this is rough.

They can be ok if they can just hold it together and stay a few games back. Every team in the division seems to be about at the same level, so they should all keep beating up on each other. The Phils just need to hang around until they get some people back.

They're not going to dominate, but if fully healthy they're still probably the best team in the division. This stretch is the key to their season though. It looks like Utley will be back in a couple weeks, Howard probably shortly after. Even then they're not going to come back as MVP's. Pretty much just have to hope they start August around 3-5 games back. They should have everyone back and in swing around then.

We're going to agree to disagree on trading Brown.

With regards to the AL road trip, actually I'd bring Chase up from Clearwater to DH. I

I dont really believe anything when it comes to his injury but he it seems like that could be an option just not for the series against Baltimore.

We need to find a way to get Brown up here. This team is pretty bad offensively, and I don't think he'll be worse and could improve. Looks like Utley and Howard looked good swinging the bat too so maybe we get them back and they play the way they are capeable of.

If Utley isn't up for the AL roadtrip, may as well call Brown up and let him DH.
