I can see something like $10.8771 million a year for 7 years, then after next season sign Malkin to the exact same contract.

My personal inclination is $8.7M per year again, essentially for the rest of his career.

You have to remember that whatever gets Malkin will want as well

Will there be pressure from the PA? Sure, but Crosby will have to balance consideration for the PA with his legacy. Every dollar that he takes on his salary is less money for other players on the team. Do you think he would shoot for another $2M a year to placate the PA if it means they will lose Staal? Don't think so...

Better lock him up long term quick before he has a healthy season and the max salary increases.

The NHLPA argument is bunk. People said the same thing about when Lemieux came back from retirement and he took 3mil/yr. They can moan all they want, Sid doesn't need to do what they want.

Yeah....that's why they're not getting him.

Mario got $5.25 when he came back. He only went down to $3 mill in 05-06 after the new CBA and when everyone knew it'd be a miracle if his body would last half a season.

Sid will get a good amount of pressure from the PA to take more money. Whether he does it, we'll see.

*rumors from Mark Madden. That's a big asterik there.

If that's true, it's a fantastic deal for the Pens. If he stays healthy, $8.9 mill for the rest of his career is a steal. If he turns into Marc Savard, he'll go on LTIR every year and insurance will pay him.

Wouldn't surprise me. Crosby's the most OCD guy ever.

Actually he took the league median (? or was it mean?) salary at the request of the union. Then the next year he made $10 million ($5 as player, $5 as chairman).

What I'd like to know is who pays for insurance on a contract like that?

Like 10 years at 8.7 million. The team pays it?

I wonder how much the insurance would be out of curiosity.

The team does buy insurance on it. Not sure on the cost, I'd assume the longer, the more expensive.

There was a delay on DiPietro's deal because the Isles had trouble finding someone who would insure the contract....and for good reason.

Long term deals are the norm now, so I'd assume it's not hard to get them insured. For someone with Crosby's concussion issues, though, I assume it'd be more expensive.

I can't wait for the leafs fans proposals.

"Komisarek, Lombardi, and a 7th Round pick for Crosby. The salaries are close!"

Leafs would only post that after a Nucks fan posted something like

Luongo for Crosby+

That would be a sick deal for the Pens if true.

Oh god...if Crosby doesn't sign soon, we will hear alot of low ball offers for him, followed by "he will be UFA in 1 year, so we can always wait and get him for free". Happening to Staal, will happen to Crosby aswell, then Malkin. Before you know it Staal, Crosby, and Malkin will ALL be UFA's and sign with other teams and we lose then for free, or so HF tries to make you believe.

14 years, 14 million. 1M cap hit per year. Same with Staal, then Malkin...imagine the team we could field then?

After Gagner's 1 special game, i think the starting point to get him would be Crosby and Staal. It will probably end up being something like Crosby, Staal, Letang, Morrow, Despres, Engo, Dupuis for Gagner, Horcoff and Hemsky HAVE to be added for cap reasons. Pens then start a rebuild around Gagner, who then turns into Hasselhoff who got so famous for Baywatch (Gagner for 9 point game), then stars in tons of movies, and doesn't play that much for the Pens. Then takes a few years off acting, plays some hockey, wins back to back cups, goes back to acting and has his own little special spot on the bench with hot tanned babes giving him neck messages and stuff. Then he soon has his own book out talking about how he had a 9 point game, and that it was super awesome, and how he got famous for it and stuff.

Contract extension talks for Sidney Crosby are on. Pat Brisson and Ray Shero had a couple of discussions in the last few days.
What the hell was the 2nd discussion for?

Discussion 1
Brisson: ''my client would like a contract extension''
Shero: ''what ever he wants''

END OF DISCUSSIONS.

Throwing 9M-10M numbers around i'm sure. He's probably wanting to see what Crosby wants and throwing a few numbers his way. Perhaps also the years offered are different. July 1st he will be signed, that's a given.
