Want to get peoples opinions on the top devils players in history. Want at least one from every position, and the pairings you would put together. For example:
Left wing:Sergei Brylin
Center:Bobby Holik
Right Wing:Claude Lemieux
Defensemen:Scott Nedermieyer
Defensemen:Ken Daneyko
Just an example. Would like to see your guys' opinion. Or you could do just really good players because i think the best ones are pretty much set in stone already.

Are we talking about the best players that have ever been Devils?
Or are we talking about the players who were the best Devils?
a bit of both. like i put lemieux in there even tho he only played like 1 or 2 seasons because he played good for the devils and was one of the best right wingers of all time. so a bit of both.

If I remember correctly in the Summer of 01 Holik was an RFA, and was eligible for UFA a Summer later. Remember back then in the CBA I think 31 was the UFA age whereas after this current CBA it was lowered every year until it eventually got to age 27.
Holik was not happy at what the arbitrator awarded him, and I remember him being very critical about it, and coming right out, and saying he would most likely not be with the Devils next year. He was very insulted by the arbitrators ruling. He said more than once throughout the season he would probably be leaving, but he's worried about winning with the Devils now. I figured he was definite trade material, but Lou seemed to wanna make a big offer, and thought they could get him stay. I believe Lou did make him a big offer come UFA time or maybe even before he got on the market, but the Rangers ended up beating him out narrowly. Bobby admitted recently in his blog in so many words going to the Rangers wasn't the best choice. I still can't get over how bad that Rangers team sucked. I guess it's obvious. Messier over 40, Richter injured, former Devils backup Mike Dunham the starting goalie, Lindros, and Bure's careers were basically over as young as they were.

No he was not insulted by the ruling. He was pissed off that the team preached a team concept and defensive first mentality then used goal production against him in arbitration.

Yeah I wasn't really sure of what the ruling was all about. I just remember when it happened he wasn't too happy about it. When all the trade Parise talk was happening I was thinking ''How come we didn't trade Holik? He even said throughout the season more than once he was leaving'' I guess Lou tried to make an offer, and thought it would work.
Stevens - Niedermayer
Daneyko - Rafalski
Driver - White
Broduer
Terreri
Pat Burns
Larry Robinson
Jaques LeMaire
I shed tears making this roster. Reminds of of the Glory Days.
Poni, Clarkson, Bernier, Carter, Gionta, Henrique, Josefson, Kovalchuk, Zajac, Zubrus, Greene, and Larsson can make this roster one day. Especially Henrique.
clemmenson wasnt bad tho. weekes was so bad it was laughable
What I think it was, is that Weekes wasn't a starter. He was not a starting goaltender, just a backup. He wasn't capable of being a starter. Clemmensen on the other hand was a starter, but just not at the NHL level. He backed up Marty for a couple years in between starting for or splitting starts with the River Rats in Albany, and the year starting for the Marlies in Toronto. He was more suited for a starter I think. The first few games after Marty was injured was a train wreck. Weekes, and Clemmensen didn't look like they could carry the team, and I would bet Lou was closer to making a trade than we think.
