RD Connor Carrick (2012, 137th, WSH; 2016 trade, TOR)

Suppose to go in the 5th round, he was born in my town, I talk to his brother sometimes. I'm just wondering if any of you guys who are good with prospects ever hear anything about him.
Thanks!

could be like a Robbie Russo type player. underrated, smooth, but nothing earth shattering. gets picked up in the 4th to 5th round but blossoms a bit in college and actually looks like a pro player...I can see that with my Orland Park boy here...him and Tynan from the same area, keep em coming South Side Chicago!!

I'm not from Orland!

And I see Carrick as a borderline late sixth type of player at best. He never really stood out to me at all.

Orland Park is starting to produce some really solid kids, the area is getting better and better with the level of hockey being played at the Edge and Southwest Ice Arena, etc...

still not close to the north side, but baby steps...baby steps...

Anyone that's seen much of him this year have anything to say about him.

He was pretty good during the development camp, but haven't seen anything from him since. His numbers look pretty good...

has to be a top 6 cadidate for the US WJC team next year. Really improved his overall game and has become an impact type player. love the pick and the kid...he has the potential to be a solid pro player in 2-3 years..

looks pretty damn good now in NHL I think. Seems to be quite the surprise for the Caps so far. Articles Ive been reading say coaches are real impressed with him and may stay past the 9 game mark. Also, he was drafted out of USHL so he can either play Caps, AHL or back in the OHL. Any chance he sticks in NHL?.. Very impressive OHL stats and has scored in NHL already

Had a really good season in the AHL last year and was among the last cuts in training camp. That's about all I know. Still has work to do defensively, based off of preseason

He'll be one of the first call-ups this season, along with Stanton. Offensively, he's obviously talented enough to be an NHLer, but he's clearly not ready yet for full-time NHL duty. He'll need another season or two in the AHL before he gets a chance at becoming a regular.

So, he's basically in the same boat as Bowey. Two guys who need a ton of work on their defensive games, with above average offensive instincts. I honestly don't think Carrick is much of a lesser prospect than Bowey, but then again I don't really like either of them much.

Had a real solid first game for the Leafs. Excited to see him able to make the big club - Washington isn't an appropriate place for him to be learning on the job (as a contending team). The Leafs afford him that opportunity.

The way Capitals fans talked this guy down post-trade made me think he was worthless.

The kid can play. Only 21 and he fit in very well tonight, was good posititionally and has really good wheels. Also looks bigger than 5'10, to me he looked about 6'0.

I see top 4 potential. Looks like an NHL player.

If by destroyed you mean elbowing him in the head then losing the fight then sure he destroyed him.

Jeez, I don't understand how this type of assessment can be made.

His first play of the game, or as a leaf, was him making a terrible read and fumbling the puck for a turnover. He looked slow and was immediately passing the puck to Gardiner for any transitions. It was impossible to have any idea what kind of player he was, yet you see top 4 and good wheels?

Not sure what you were watching. A couple fumbles doesn't write off his game. Was solid while paired with an absolute trainwreck of a player in Marincin.

Babcock said he liked his game.

Are you sure you weren't watching Corrado?

His first shift was a mess. From what I read on the trade thread he was made out to be an offensive weapon with some short comings in his own end. From that first game I would say that proved to be pretty accurate. He didn't seem to make the best plays when they were available when trying to get the puck out of his own end which lead his line to have troubles on the breakout. However in the offensive zone he looked good. I like that he isn't afraid to throw his body around. He did lose the fight but good for him for giving it a go. Overall I'm happy we got him in that deal if he can develop in his own end he could be a good one. Way too early to put a label on him though.

I saw the same play?

I was mildly under-impressed. For a player whose bread and butter is his skill with the puck, he made quite a few technical errors. But he's only 21 with like 20 NHL games to his name so obviously we all need to refrain from making any kind of serious judgement on the kid.
