Bob McKenzie was fielding questions from his followers tonight. When asked "With TB looking for a goalie, how far off is the kid playing in the Calder Cup Finals?"
He replied:

not ready yet. I think Tampa will trade for Jonathan Bernier.
Interesting to see what a potential return would be for the Kings if it went down. I could see a trade like this happening, possibly with Garon included in the package going to L.A. If Bernier is going to get more playing time, it won't be with the Kings. I wonder if they'd be able to get Connolly away from the Lightning. Probably not, but you never know.
That would be a good move for TB. They need goaltending badly, imo. And, again imo, no one in the system has any real chance of becoming a #1 starter in the NHL, with all due respect to Tokarski.
As long as Yzerman is not concerned about Bernier's height disadvantage, and Yzerman is confident Bernier will improve dramatically from what he has shown thus far in the NHL. Bernier is a significant risk at this point, but he was goalie of the year in the AHL, he was drafted high for a reason, and he has a ton of skill.

I think Bernier will go for much less than Connolly.

There have been plenty of threads about this. And was pretty much decided that a fair trade would be
Here we go again bernier to tampa has come up 4 times in threads in the last few weeks tampa fans seem fine with connelly and the 19th for muzzin and bernier. I want bernier martinez for connelly and the 10th. I think the kings could turn the 10 into apick so we can get forsberg the lw the kings really need in there system .

kings have plenty of goalies coming up the pipeline. So no need for garon. Jones of Zatoloff would end up playing the 20 ish games as a backup .
The Kings will be looking for a first round pick, possibly a mid-rounder as well. Doubtful that they will be looking to add any players.
Lombardi has layered his power forward, defensive and goaltending prospects extraordinarily well, but other than Toffoli there isn't much scoring pop up front. He has given up a few top picks over the last 2 drafts, and will be looking to use his ready and talented but spare parts to re-stock the system.
Don't be surprised to see Loktionov dealt as well. He is absolutely ready, but has no spot if Stoll is re-signed as expected.
Bernier will be out of the organization before the 1st round of the draft ends.
He's ready, the Kings don't need him, they do need picks, and Lombardi is very big on giving players the opportunities they deserve. He won't hold him back, and his value as an asset now exceeds his value as insurance given that Quick answered the big-game questions.
Bernier hasn't proven much at the NHL level yet. Less than impressive stats for a guy on such a strong defensive team. I think Yzerman probably tries to get him (or any goalie) mostly by moving picks, since they have millions of them. idk why they need a young guy like Bernier when they have a great prospect already though. It'd make sense to look for a little bit more of a stopgap for a few years until Tokarski is ready, imo.

The Kings will not trade him unless they get value. No need to give away contract leverage unless they get fair value. Make no mistake, goalies are twice as valuable as they were 3 years ago. Recent history shows the return for goalies are going up every trade, and every team that makes a dent in the playoffs are driven by their goalie. I'd wager if a trade between the two goes down it would be for Connolly or their first rounder.

Bernier's the real deal - there isn't much risk to the team that acquires him. He's still very young, and the best case scenario would be for a team with a fading vet as a starter to transition the role to Bernier over the course of the year and not expect the moon right away.
If LA just wanted to deal him, they would have done so at either of the previous drafts or deadlines. They know his likely future value, but needed Quick to answer some questions first.

It would seem that perhaps Yzerman doesn't feel Tokarski is going to be the answer.
Remember guys, Halak was traded for a blue-chip forward prospect (Lars Eller) and a potential 4th liner (Ian Schultz), and Halak proved a hell of a lot more than Bernier has.
