I would want to add a d-man to the deal from Edmonton, Peckham, Potter or Plante. Basically, an AHL guy.
I considered that but the OP seemed to indicate that their system was full of defence prospects. The Oilers definitely have d-prospects they could through in, not Klefbom, Marincin or Gernat but I'd consider Musil or even Teubert.
You have that backwards. Calgary gave Buffalo a pick to *take* him....and bury him in Europe. If Pittsburgh wants anything in return other than cap space, they're going to have to give up something/someone whose value is higher. All I'm saying.
Yes my bad I forgot it was that way round. The point is Martin can still be a top 4 dman in the NHL and doesn't need to be buried in the minors or in Europe.

Pens have Strait and Bortuzzo who both have to go through waivers next year so they have no need for d prospects, we'll take a guy like Plante of your hands if you want and just not qualify him.
A - when you under perform and are making $5M your value goes down
B - when GMs see blood in the water they take advantage, if Martin is dangled everyone knows why.
There is no way he returns a 1st plus a good prospect.
The Tampa proposal in this thread would be the ceiling IMO.
Keep dreaming, Shero will get a good return for him. You must have forgot what top 4 dmen are worth in today's NHL, he's not a cap dump but Shero will wait untill August or so to trade him. He's underrated around here, then again most Pens are.

we have two NHL ready guys in the AHL who needs be given a one way contract this off-season or we risk losing them (Strait and Bortuzzo, who have both done well when in the NHL).
We have two blue chippers in Despres and Joe Morrow. Despres looked more than ready when playing in the NHL this season. Joe Morrow is our future PP QB.
And then there's Scott Harrington, on the OHL first All Star team this season for London's Memorial Cup finalists, ahead of WC and club line mate Jared Tinordi (Habs 1st round pick).
This is why we will be dealing from D. We can also end up trading Niskanen who had a great season and/Or Lovejoy who is a very cap efficient 7th D-man making little more than 500k.
But some of the geniuses on here simply get the fact that we want to trade a 5 million dollar D-man. Who cares that a guy playing 23+ minutes a night against top opposition and having done so mostly very efficiently for 6/7 years will be useful on most teams in the league. No, we will have to pay to get rid of him .
I wonder how fans of teams with a need for one or more top4 D-men will think once Suter is off the board on July 1st. Defensive pillars like Wideman, Carle.... and yes even Rozival perhaps.... they will get paid....
Yeah if you count extending Sharp and Seabrook as "diddly squat"
I was more thinking about having a bunch of open cap space, signing Brunette and Morrison, extending Frolik and Crawford, stuff like that, but I am happy to just let the point just be, that the trade does not look half bad for Florida in retrospect, if that works better for you.
I'd be real upset if we gave up Panik for a guy like Martin. With the high possibility that Connolly gets dealt, Panik is one of the few guys we have with big offensive upside. I wouldn't give up more than a later 2nd and a prospect like Mullin/Nesterov.

...and that in itself a good point. Campbell found himself in a role where he was comfortable and a nr.1 D-man rather than being paid more than better and more important players at a cap-hampered Chicago team.
Florida had no-one who could munch minutes and skate like him.... well, Kulikov going forward, but he was a kid. Campbell thrived. It wasn't that Campbell didn't play well at Chicago. He just wasn't that crucial for them, and cap-concerns forced their hands - with them throwing a talented youngster in his place. I don't know if anyone sees a parallel.....
Really? Good to know we will be able to grab a 1st + prospect for Komi this summer too then.
Komisarek couldn't even get off the Leafs' bottom pairing, and was a healthy scratch on some occasions. Martin logged the second most minutes on a playoff team.
If Suter, Gill, and Boullion all leave, plus we dont get Parise, Nashville will have money and could use a shut-down D. Not sure he is the right guy, but if we have no other options, he's a possibility.
I rather use $5 million dollars on a better player but if the cost is cheap and with a team with plenty of cap space, Pittsburgh can probably get a 2nd or 3rd and middling prospect.
I say Nashville if Suter leaves. He would be a perfect compliment to Weber on the first pairing. No way the Wild take him, first, he didn't even listen when he was a UFA a couple of years ago and his reasoning was he didn't want the pressure/distraction of playing in his hometown.
Pens fans don't expect much if you do deal him. Your paying him based on production not on what he was 2 years ago. Maybe a late 2nd or 3rd rounder. You make this trade to give a young player a chance and move salary to extend Sid.
It's doubtful unless someone is well under the cap floor they will be as generous as say the Habs were when they saved the Rangers from the Gomez contract.

But yeah, totally the same thing.
and the Penguins paid for it too giving up 5 goals a game and getting bounced in the playoffs in blowout fashion
i fail to see how that equates to a 1st and a prospect. at least Toronto had the sense to not play Komi
the Penguins played martin and paid the price for it
I wouldnt want him on the Blue Jackets, 3 million for a 3rd pairing defenseman is bad 5 million for it is criminal
and just because he stunk for the 2nd most minutes on your team doesnt make him stink any less
