"To sum it up being a Kings fan in Canada — especially in Vancouver — sucks," said Parhar. "You're stuck on your own with nobody to celebrate with during the good times and you are ridiculed during the bad times.
"I know tons of hockey fans, and since the Canucks have been eliminated the only person who will watch hockey with me is my Dad."
This is it basically. You're a weirdo for cheering for them and have no one to celebrate with when they win.
I know dad would have been watching with me if he was still here (even though he was a Habs fan).

Man I miss him.
I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I am in the same boat as far as being the weirdo cheering for them and having no one to celebrate with when they win. My Dad is a Habs fan, but his second favourite team is LA (going back to Rogie Vachon). But he lives a two and half hour drive away, so it will be me watching the game in my apartment cheering and driving my neighbours nuts.

Yup. I live in northern cali, don't have anyone here to share the experience with, other than the wife. I scream pretty loud when the Kings score too. I was downstairs for game 2 and my son was upstairs. After Carter scored, I yelled and the baby boy started crying.
I normally don't have the option to go to a watch party given that I have the kids to look after...hmm, actually I may be able to go to one tonight. Any going on in the Fairfield/Vacaville area? I can't drive all the way out to Sacramento or San Francisco, farthest I could go would probably be Davis or Vallejo in the other direction.
It is pretty lonely being a Kings fan, even in Northern Cali (sucks).
I'm lucky because a few of my Flyer fan friends are also cheering the Kings on and while we're not in the same city/country, we are all on facebook so we can cheer together while cursing the ground Ed Snider and Paul Holmgren walk on!
yeah it is a weird being a Kings fan where I am. I have been talking to people about Quick and Kopitar forever. The nice thing is with the playoffs everyone is getting to see first hand what we have been talking about! Everyone in my office is cheering on the Kings. I don't know what I will do if they win tonight because it is just me and my cat at home this evening and he doesn't care so much.
I live in Calgary and became a kings fan the day the kings got gretzky. I was 8 years old at the time. All my friends love the flames and love the "how many cups have the kings won" argument when comparing teams, that argument should be gone soon
Its weird how i've never ran into any other kings fans in my town and now that they are so close I see more and more. Its like they were in hiding...... Like that Matthew Gourlie. Never heard of him. I guess because I don't read the newspaper....
I love how all the Kings fans are coming out of the woodwork. But my question is where is my interview?!? Lol.
Exactly.
I agree with so much in that article, people keep asking me if I was jumping on the bandwagon, or making fun of me for jumping on the bandwagon...so I pull out my Ziggy Palffy Shield Logo era jersey to shut them up, but it still bothers me...I sat through all the ******** of Rob Blake part 2, John Zeiler, Richard Clune, Jeff Giuliano, Yukata Fukufuji, etc to see this team come together from the ashes of the team that made me a Kings fan (LAPD era Kings), to be called a bandwagonner is so insulting...sigh, nothing to be done though...except continue to cheer for the Kings

Ahhh, the LAPD era, where the only that was on IR more than the players was your hopes.
I agreed with both trades, but imagine if we hadn't traded for Allison and if had got someone else, like say Radim Vrbata and another 1st instead of Deadmarsh. If only we knew then just how bad the injury bug was going to be.

I keep getting asked whether I'm a bandwagoner too. I keep telling people I became a Kings fan August 9, 1988. Since I live in the heart of Oil Country, most fans know exactly what I am talking about. I really should pull out my Burger King third jersey I have to shut those people up.
I too suffered through the bad. Hell, I even saw Barry Brust tend goal for the Kings in person. I remember being upset heading to that game in Calgary that the Kings brought him up instead of Yutaka Fukufuji. I figured if I was going to see a goalie who should be in the ECHL, let's see a historic NHL first.
My dad loves to make fun of me because as an 8 year old, I solemnly told him that it was lonely being a Kings fan. Haven't lived that down even 17 years later, but its still pretty true I think.
I live in a small town, so everybody knows my allegiances, thankfully. A few of my friends were telling me about the 1st and 2nd round, after betting against the Kings and losing, they were shelling out cash to the recipients while cursing ME under their breath, like I did it .
I managed to convert my girlfriend this winter, she knows enough now to talk hockey circles around most of the dumbass casual fans she meets who try to make fun of her for liking the Kings. So I've got her. Beyond that its a group of far flung friends who like to keep tabs because they know I'm a comedic wreck if they lose.
