I actually wouldn't mind Penner....if he came over on a bargain contract. He's done well when he was the least important player on his line, which could be accomplished on the Canucks. For $2.5M, I'd take him for sure. He'll get a $4M+ contract from somewhere though.

Seems like a classic example of the kind of player that will get a big offer from Buffalo/Florida/whoever is desperate to add three or four UFAs this year..

No he hasn't done well when the least important player on his line. You are looking at Penner the playoff player and not Penner the regular season player. Penner the regular season player would be an absolute disaster in Vancouver and it would be a total mistake to even bring him in at any price. His lack of effort that led to him being a healthy scratch for LA all season would be a media disaster and a major distraction for the team. No Thanks.

He's a decent player who will be overpaid this summer. I've seen him play the last 2 seasons & he's been godawful.

So basically not only no, hell no.

Yet he's about to win a 2nd cup. Just the right place (team), right time?

This.

I remember watching one of the STL/LA playoff games and Penner was hitting some guys and doing a bit of fore-checking and Ferraro wouldn't stop talking about it (as if he had just witnessed the impossible).

I would liken him to a fat, slow, less talented Bertuzzi.

Penner has been good/great in these playoffs though. He's absolutely terrible in the regular season, but in the playoffs, his big body causes issues.

Not someone I would invest in because of how much he will get... but he's not "garbage".

I doubt dusty leaves LA and will take a sharp discount to stay. Unless the Kings ignore him and throw him out.

Even then he walks across the street and becomes a duck again for 3mil.

I'd be secretly happy if the Canucks got penner.....

Sedin Sedin Penner
Booth Kesler Jensen
Burrows Schroeder Hansen
Higgins Lapierre Kassian

Probably take Penner at $2.5M-$3M over Raymond at the same salary or Booth at $4.25M.

Earmark the savings for Burrows and Edler extensions.

Those savings are gone after this season though

If Penner goes to free agency, the team that signs him will regret it the way Edm did
