Henrique invaluable contributor to New Jersey Devils post-season

*

While Gabriel Landeskog and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins have watched the playoffs on high-definition telecasts, one Calder Trophy finalist has lived them firsthand, helping push his team all the way to the Stanley Cup Final.

A key contributor for the New Jersey Devils during the regular season, Adam Henrique has been held to only four goals in 22 post-season matches. But oh how those goals have mattered. Henrique scored two goals in Game 7 of the first round against the Panthers, including the game-winner in overtime. He followed that up with the OT winner that clinched the Eastern Conference Final versus the Rangers.… read more

He has been nothing short of heroic for this team on many occasions.

Nice article.

Great article, though I always laugh when I see his prospect page:

Henrique adapted very easily to the pro game last year and it appears he doesn’t need much more development time in the minors. While it’s not a stretch to say he could make it as a second-liner, he’s more likely to settle into the role of an above average two-way third-liner who chips in 40 to 50 points at his peak. Similar in style to Brooks Laich.
He had 51 this season, right?

The Nuge and the Kog are watching at home is right! The Nuge plays on a second year in a row lottery team again or is it a third? The Kog plays on a go nowhere Avs team that won't make the playoffs for a long time especially since they chose to retain Joe Sacco. While both are the best things about their teams the Rique should get the Calder! He's got more shorthanded points I bet! I think he'll be a 50-60 point guy! I kinda like him with Kovy, and hope he's with him next season. I actually like him with Parise or Kovy as much as I don't like Parise, and Kovy always being on the same lines!

He's been our best most consistent player this playoffs along with Marty! He really has, and it's incredible! For all the first round busts at least we got a great player out of the 08 draft! To say he reminds me of Gomez doesn't do him justice. He reminds me of Zajac, and Parise! Easily the best draft picks since them, and I think he can be as good as them too.

If you saw him playing growing up, you'd know why he ended up this talented, poised, humble.
He worked harder than anyone else around, but had fun doing it.
Adam is a guy who has always loved hockey, and the comraderie of team mates, and truly appreciates all his fans.
This was a very nice article to validate a great kid.
Were all watching at home rink Adam.
Good luck from a lifetime Devils fan.

I've always wondered how great players can get picked in later rounds. How do teams pass them up? I know they don't do it on purpose but, its possible that sometimes you just can't tell whether player could blossom to be a star? Seems odd

Did you know anything about how good you are at everything in your current life right now a year ago? 3 years? 5? 10? Even more?

That's how... People mature and grow, physically and emotionally, constantly. It's difficult to predict.

There are guys toiling away in the AHL that can shoot a puck ~105MPH, but they can't play without the puck well, or can't skate fast enough, or a coach 5 years ago in Junior didn't like them and gave them a bad rap. There's so many things that happen in hockey, it's so tough to nail down a reason.

This is true. There is a Matt Corrente, then Adam Henrique. It's why unless you're picking in the top-5, you really have no clue what you are getting.

I may have said it before here, but he definitely surpassed my expectations. I thought he was going to be a legit NHLer somewhere in the mould of a 2nd/3rd line tweener type who would score between 40-50 points a season. He proved this year that when paired with talented players, he is more than capable of keeping up. I'd stretch that to say he's probably a 60-65 point per game player in the future now.

Better to underestimate him and be pleasantly surprised, than overhype him and suffer disappointment when he doesn't reach those expectations.

"I remember I was at the shop at the start of the year buying a couple things and I saw some of the guys' t-shirts on the way and I wondered, 'I wonder what I gotta to do to get one of mine up there.'"

Two series clinchers, a huge goal to save the team's campaign, outstanding two-way play and a Calder nomination will do the trick every time.
Can't decide if I wanna get a Henrique jersey or a Parise jersey (if he re-signs.)
