I think Carolina would easily offer their 8th overall + Sutter to unite the Staal brothers.

That's actually quite a feasible deal, as sutter also the perfect makings of third line center. But again the eighth overall? I think some prospect like Tangradi might come with.

5th. overall and Kulemin for 1 year rental of Staal for a team that isn't even a strong playoffs bet.
The Staal brothers uniting hoopla comes from Carolina, Jordan will extend with who ever trades for him and gives him the opportunity to be the guy imo.

'Canes' odds of re-signing J.Staal is much higher than the Leafs'.

That maybe but isn't it also possible that Jordan also wants to be the man of his own team? I mean think about it he's been in the shadows of crosby and malkin in the penguins team and now if he shifts to the canes, he will be under the shadow of Eric Staal.

That being said, it's also very possible he believes to create a crosby - malkin punch in the canes organization ?

Why would Carolina trade for Jordan if there is so much certainty they can get him for free next year?

I agree just wait until next summer and compete on the open market.

Next summer is for Getzlaf but he'll only sign if Staal is already here.

I'd love to find out from a hockey insider, what they think will happen in the new CBA and I wonder how much players will be looking at cashing in on long term deals prior to the new CBA being announced. I'm sure we'll see several Ehrhoff like signing bonuses.

Why?

He can't re-sign until July 1st., so Leafs can trade for him then?

I'm fine with the Leafs trading for him in July when he can't come to terms with Pittsburgh.
