Thats crazy about Deadmarsh if that is true. Suffering from concussion symptoms for almost a decade with out playing is just scary.

His career cut short by a concussion sustained in, you guessed it, a fight.

It's going to suck in the coming years when more of these awful stories come out about the effects concussions have had on some of our favorite NHL and NFL players, hope all those fights in hockey and head hunting in the NFL was worth it.

Sad times.

Sucks in both cases. Loved both as Kings. Lappy will forever and always have my respect as one of the hardest working, most sacrificing player I have EVER seen. I hope he gets some sort of recognition by the Kings next year. We need a Lappy Night in LA. As for Deader, that's terrible. Its been 9 years for him and he's still dealing with this ****. I really hope someone finds some help for him because he deserves so much better. Really tough to see him go through this. At first I thought he got put on weight just from being out of the game and letting it all loose but knowing that he still has issues and can't work out is tough for anyone. I wish both of them the best going forward and thank both for their services to this team.

Lappy should have never left. Should have retired a King.

So sad that Lappy had to end his career because of an injury. He was a great player with a ton of heart and I wish there were more players like him. Wish the Flyers could've pulled it out for him in 2010.

Damn that news about Deader has ruined my day. What a great guy. Thought he was doing well as an Avs coach.

Scary stuff. Goes with what we heard all those years ago when Deader had his night of appreciation at Staples.

They'd mentioned he was the video coach because he could't be on the ice....

Sad that 2 great players who were also Kings suffer.

Please remember that many people suffer through these things as well and do it without medical care and without the care & concern that these 2 get.

Not sure if you're referring to Lappy here, but I thought Deadmarsh was kneed in the head by Craig Johnson at a Kings practice?

Deadmarsh's NHL career ended too soon. Concussions forced his retirement in 2005 as a Los Angeles King, after three years of recurrent headaches and dizziness. Deadmarsh never recovered from being accidentally kicked in the head by a Kings teammate at a practice. Even now, he has trouble exercising for long without symptoms recurring, but otherwise he is feeling normal.

That concussion ended it, but the Jovanovski knockout concussion is what started this whole ordeal. Giroux got kicked in the head by his own teammate, Simmonds, suffered from a concussion, but was able to return. Had Deadmarsh not had a history with concussions, I'm sure he would have recovered from the Craig Johnson accidental kick.

It also didn't help that Deadmarsh went crashing head first into the boards in LA's playoff series against Colorado in 2002. His career wasn't going to last long unfortunately, and it didn't.
