Who replaces Gaborik?

With Gaborik out until Nov/Dec, who fills his RW spot on the 1st line?

I don't think any of our prospects are even close to the NHL yet, so those are out of the question. The only other option really is trading for someone. Maybe Radulov makes sense? Little cost good return

And if we are considering lazy Russians, how about Semin?

In b4 rangerboy posts no one because he'll be back by the time the lockout ends.

Nobody...

But they will add a big name forward, and along with Kreider, Hagelin and co., it will be a very different team with just a couple of changes (a PP specialist?).

When MG comes back...look out..

Yes Callahan is a third liner. Most teams have 4 wingers that are better than Callahan...

Callahan is definitely not a first line player. However, it's just as crazy to suggest he's a "pure third-liner."

almost 30 goals makes you a third liner!

The undervaluing of Callahan is almost as amusing as the hating on Gaborik.

Callahan 29 goals in 76 games.

Nash 30 goals in 82 games.

No, it just shows how few games you actually watch.

I'm not saying he's a long term solution as a top line winger, but this idea that Callahan is a 3rd liner and couldn't possibly carry the load for a couple of months should it boil down to that is preposterous.

29 goal scorers don't grow on trees the last time I checked, and he only missed 30 because of injury. The only other player in the league with 30 goals and 200 hits? Alexander Ovechkin. That's elite, exclusive company that Cally was 1 goal away from.

He's not only a 2nd liner, but a very good one at that. He didn't get where he is on work alone. If that were the case Boyle or Prust would be our captain.

in response to replacing gaborik...
the plan would be to acquire:

Radulov
Zherdev
Semin
Kovalev (yes he comes out of retirement when he sees that the rangers got 3 players just like him)

getting those 4 players basically means insta-win

Just because Gaborik won't be in the lineup for a couple months doesn't mean the team isn't going to score any goals. True that they might not score as many but I think this team is very capable of treading water until he gets back. In any case--it's not always so much how you start the season--it's how you finish. Case in point--the L.A. Kings who scored only 194 goals during the season--less than the Isles and the Bluejackets. They had the second lowest goals for in the league behind only Minnesota. Rangers are structured around their defense anyway. Just saying I think we could ride Gaborik's injury out and I prefer it to sending young roster players to Columbus for Nash--or than paying too high or too long a term contract for Radulov--who may come with a suitcase full of issues.

If Radulov does come--need to keep his cap hit and contract term down. No more than 2 years and in the neighborhood of $3-3.5 mil per. He still has a lot to prove to deserve a big contract.
