they suck? if they suck, what does Biron do? Blow? Hedberg is ten times the goalie that Biron is, even at the age of 92 or whatever he is.
Come on Inferno, let's drop the hyperbole. You may agree that Hedberg is slightly better than Biron, I'm fine with that. I personally don't, I think they're about even (with Hedberg more likely to sharply decline due to his age).
I don't really understand all the Biron hate. He had some bad games towards the end of the year and his 5-hole was exposed, I admit. But it's not like teams suddenly "figured him out". Biron's been in the league for 15 seasons and played the same style his whole career. He just had a rough patch for about two months, just like he had an amazing stretch at the beginning of the season.
If you think there are any backups available who are significantly better, you are delusional. Any goalie that is "that much better" than Biron will not be a backup, they'll be a starter.
EDIT: Just noticed the guy you were responding to was also being a bit over the top. Hedberg absolutely does not suck, he's a top backup in the NHL...as is Biron. Either goalie would fit the role on NYR great (maybe one has a better year next year than the other, but to me it would be a coin flip). I just see no reason to replace Biron (someone who is well liked on the team and played pretty well in his role) with Hedberg when the difference is marginal.

Hank and Marty have a fantastic relationship, and Hank just had a Vezina winning season. Why fix what's not broken?
I'd MUCH rather keep Marty than bring in someone who's maybe marginally better and risk messing up a good situation. Marty might be the most well liked guy in that dressing room.
biron is a goalie - i think - who isn't good playing the occasional game. he is a goalie who is better with more work. while i don't think he's good to give hank the occasional game off, he would be good if hank got injured and was out for a while. so, in that respect, i think he's a good backup.
The New York Rangers appear intent on bringing back goaltender Martin Biron, ESPNNewYork.com has learned.
According to a source, there has been "progress" in contract talks between the Rangers and the 34-year-old netminder.
It is believed that Biron, regarded as one of the best backups in the league, is seeking a multi-year contract although there is still work to be done before a deal is finalized
Biron is a good dynamic for Hank right now and sometimes that is more important than his actual play. A down year for Marty, but someone who could easily improve next year.

Yep. Marty is very well liked.
He was bad, but guess what- Hank was pretty subpar too for the entire month of March. Our defense disappeared.

Because some people on this board are sick and want to sign old man Hedberg for no reason at all.
I'd definitely give him around $2M for two years. The Vokoun contract seems fair.
