so he'll stay there this year though? he should get a fair amount of games this year on call up, he may even make the team.

another reason to keep smyth away.

He deserves a spot on this team.

I'd be rattled if he walked.

Can anyone confirm that he says exactly that in the article? I'd hate to get worked up over an inaccurate translation.

Well I'm the same person who posted that article, but I try to make a really rough translation. I hope my fellow finns can confirm.

"Kuopio's hockeystars options: NHL or KHL

NHL or KHL.

Those are Teemu Hartikainen's options, when his three years deal expires after next season.

- Thats right. If I don't get one way deal, I'm taking direction to Russia, replies powerforward who has returned to Kuopio for summer.

- I have seen and experienced the farm league.

Hartikainen's, 22, thoughts has a logic.

Wing's current NHL-contract quarantees to him almost 900 000 dollars per year. In AHL's Oklahoma City Barons you can take away one zero. KHL's top 6 forwards is paid over million dollar and even third and fourth liners get minimum of 500 000 dollars.

So it is no wonder that KHL is a number one option to NHL.

KalPa's former player has still one year to go from his three year two way prospect deal.

In his two seasons he has played 29 NHL-games and 137 AHL-games.

-First season went pretty much how I predicted. I knew, I have to start from farm. This season I could have made my breaktrought, but shoulder injury messed it.

- It spoiled three months. I could play, but not with my strenghts. Shoulder was so bad shape I couldn't make normal hits (contact plays)."
Sorry for my english.

Sorry for my english.
Thanks for this.

I see he has one more year (12-13) on his deal, then he expects to be signed to a 1-way deal for 2014 and the future. I think that's rational.

Like I said, if he isn't good enough to get a one way by 13-14, then let him go there.

After three years of ELC if a player who's been up and down like that and can't stick probably should be let go.

I don't know about being the prospect on the rise, but he will get a one year 2 way contract. The only question is whether they keep him up with the big club to start the season or risk losing him on waivers.

That sorta is the detroit model. They'd probably hang on to him for a 4th season, but maybe they sign him to a 1 way and still have him play up and down?

This week I have been skating with Brett Ferguson.

He's been invited to the Oiler rookie camp and will be looking to gain a minor league contract.

Fergie will be coming to rookie camp totally off the radar and he might be a long shot to play in the AHL at this point.

However, Ive also liked his grit & character ever since he came to the Rebels. Its good to see the Oilers scouting staff giving some fringe prospects a shot to get a pro career going. Hope he does well.

Why'd he quit the Echl last year and play for the Golden Bears?

That is fine, gives us another year to see if he is worth a one way contract. I like the kid and everything but he still has to prove he is worth playing in the NHL. He is signed for one more year so that allows him to prove himself, it is up to him whether he gets it or not.

I honestly hope we don't sign Smyth and let the kids fight for a spot.

Full scholarship (Petro. Eng.) and the top hockey program in the nation >>> ECHL.

Pretty simple.

He's going back to U of A if he doesn't get a pro deal this fall.

Just spoke with #Oilers prospect Oscar Klefbom. He confirmed with me that he's coming to #YEG for development camp in a couple weeks.
I love this camp, I hope it's in sherwood park again this year.

Anyone hear anything about whats up with Samu Perhonen? Tough to keep tabs on him given that he spends time in JR A SM-LIIGA which has pretty limited information.

i personally think as well that if Harti can't make the Oilers full time, then let him go to the KHL...it doesn't bother me.

and i know posters have written off Alex Plante as too slow for the NHL, but i read somewhere, sorry i can't remember where, that management has said they now feel Plante has a legit chance to make the Oil full time next year.

I guess. Can't be any worse than Peckham or Potter.

I don't doubt that it's better for him to be going to school, but to say that he's playing against better players is just lying. Most guys in the CIS don't come out of there and go to the AHL. As a person, it was probably the best move, as a pro-hockey player, probably not, especially considering he's still thinking of continueing the pro-game this year.
