Do you use some heating/warm-up baume ?

Hi there,

Just wonder if some of you use some heating/warm-up baume before practicing ?

I am looking for something to warm-up my knees (with the years going by they don't really improve :/ )

Thx

This was my experience with an analgesic balm. I was breaking up a fight in Jr. and I got kicked in the thigh. Between periods, the trainer of the pro team, who's game I was to work the next night, came into the dressing room and applied an analgesic balm to my thigh. This was before ice was used. He told me to be careful pulling up my underwear. I wasn't careful enough. Went out for the next period, and talk about burning crotch. I was the fastest guy on the ice. If you use a balm, be very careful when you pull up your underwear.

That kind of stuff doesn't really warm up your muscles...it just irritates your skin so it feels hot. If you want to warm up your muscles, you have to do it the old fashioned way.

The goalie on my team swears by this stuff and applies it all over his legs before every game. Personally i don't see the need to use it, good old stretching does the trick and i can't stand the smell.

Before a game you don't have that much time to warm up.
I a concerned about my knees' tendons (and you can't stretch a knee), so I would really like finding something about that.
I am NOT looking for an analgesic balm though. Pain is a good sign something is going wrong and you need to take it easy.

If you don't have that much time...get there earlier haha. As a goalie, I'm there an hour before every game...at least an hour.

I think a heating pad of some sorts would be a better alternative to warming up your muscles than some kind of rub.

I've used it when I was REALLY sore. I think it just distracts you from the pain honestly but it can be a good thing. Enough distraction to warm up the muscles through movement.
