Is it just me, or has RJ been named to like 3 or 4 HoFs in the past few years?

Sabres, Buffalo, and Hockey if I recall correctly.

Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else, but I thought RJ said he didn't want to be inducted until he was retired.

Either way, well deserved and good for him.

No, that had been his stance towards the HoFs, but I guess he was convinced to do it now as opposed to waiting...at his age you never know what's around the bend.

Did anyone else catch the top 10 on TSN's website? Half of the calls the calls weren't even by RJ and a random Max Afinogenov goal somehow took the number 1 spot. Poorly put together.

Yeah I couldn't really figure out the rhyme or reason for that top ten. It was basically, here's 10 random highlight reel Buffalo Sabres plays.

May Day should have been No. 1 if they put any thought into it. And they were missing the LaLaLaFontaine call. In fact I'm positive that TSN has put out a top 10 RJ call list before, that was actually a top 10 RJ call list.

The one they have on their site is just weird.

The Hockey Hall of Fame announced Friday that Rick Jeanneret is this year's recipient of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster. Jeanneret, selected by the NHL Broadcasters' Association, will be recognized at the Hockey Hall of Fame as a media honoree Nov. 12 in Toronto.
Quote:
The ceremony in Toronto will bring the number of broadcasting and writing honorees in the Hockey Hall of Fame to 88.

"I'm looking forward to it," said Jeanneret, who will be accompanied by his biggest fan. "My mom, she'll be there again. You know that. She'll be pumped up to be there, for sure. She's gung-ho to go already. She's got her bag to go to Toronto."

It would certainly be logical.

iirc, from his Sabres HOF speech, he said she's "96 years young".

Congratulations to RJ. I wonder if he began to felt like many of us that the honor was never going to happen, considering the last 10 inductees were younger than him and started their careers later than he did.

From the first paragraph in the article.......

Quote:
It's tough to find a mother who's more proud of her boy than Kay Jeanneret. In her early 90s, Jeanneret can be spotted walking in Western New York department stores in a Sabres jersey that trumpets her son, Rick.

He often downplayed it in interviews and said he didn't really think it was appropriate while he was still actively working. It sounds more like the HHoF acted proactively to include him now rather than wait til he retired.
