Dario Franchitti wins the 2012 Indy 500.

Wow, quite the finish there. Coming across the line, I said, "Wait until 3!" Then he dove low under Franchitti and I shouted, "No No, you're too... *spin*"

And the effing red car won. Boo.

Edit: This seems relevant.

**** Franchitti. That was so dirty, he could have gave Sato the space and took the lead on the frontstretch. But no, he instead decides to be a total ****** and not give Sato any room.

I guarantee that there will be no "defending" next year at Indy after that.

Bah, that's racing. As I just told my friend:

Dario gave Taku 0.99 Car Widths of room. Which is what I'd expect: It's racing, the Indy 500 and the last lap.

I always believe the leader should choose his line. Dario didn't chop Taku, he held his line.

And I'm not fan of Mr. Judd's, believe me.

True, but Sato already had the inside line before they got into the turn. What I'm really trying to say is that if he gave Sato the space, Dario probably still would have won. He would have got the tow down the back and carried the momentum through 3 and 4. If it was the other way around, Sato would be getting murdered by the media.

It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I despise everything about Dario Franchitti and his stupid wife.

Sorry, but the last thing a driver should be taught to do is give another driver "space" on the final lap of the biggest race in the history of motor sports.

Oh I agree. Like I said a few posts back, I told Taku to wait until 3. But no one ever listens to me!

Just saying, I don't expect there to be any room-giving ont he last lap of the biggest race in the world.

I'll say this much about Sato, he keeps me on the edge of my seat whenever I watch him. Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised when he brought out the last caution. Its easy for me to say from my living room, but I was hoping he'd be patient as the last lap began and wait to try to pass on the back stretch. Absolutely gutted for him and Dixon, I was kinda hoping to see Dixon pull it off at the end. Congrats to Dario, coming from as far back as he did after the incident with Viso was impressive.

That Conway-Power accident was scary. Then a wheel from the crash nearly takes out Helio.

Overall 35 lead changes to break the all-time record of 29. If Texas is anything like this in two weeks, it should be a fun race to see live.

In a post-race interview, Carpenter was very critical of Dallara, saying the reason for his spin was that a part that Dallara cut corners with broke.

Then you see Conway almost meet the fence, and you just have to shake your head. I wish the series would get away from Dallara, because they've never made good cars.

Dallara should start making airplanes though, they're so good at getting their stuff in the air.

I think I heard something about Carpenter calling out Dallara. That's very interesting what he has regarding his spin. Its really a shame too. I like Ed, it was really cool seeing him make the charge that he was making as the race was winding down yesterday. I've long thought he's underrated on the ovals.

My biggest gripe with the Conway accident was when AJ said afterwards that he had a damaged wing from hitting his crewmembers in the pits. Why in the world would they send him back out without taking care of that first? Then poor Will Power has nowhere to go as Conway crashes and his race is over. I don't remember if it was on the IMS radio broadcast or the ABC broadcast that stated Will was pretty livid afterwards, I don't blame him one bit. Will gets caught up in some of the scariest accidents...

I always liked the Lola, I miss those. I was ready to see the old Dallara chassis go bye-bye, I've not liked that thing since 2003.

Helio almost getting taken out by that tire reminded me of Sarah Fisher almost getting taken out in 2001. Her incident was more scary however. Skip to 1:55

I don't remember the track falling apart when I went to the Detroit GP in 2007 and 2008, but it looks just awful about there.

Do everyone a favor and just call the race now. No point in wasting anymore time - this isn't restarting.

Dixon was untouchable yesterday, pretty ridiculous. Pagenaud continues to impress me though, another podium for him.

+1

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't end up winning a race this year.

Next up: Texas on Saturday night. I attended the 2009 and 2011 races there, and after Indy, I'm really looking forward to seeing this race this weekend. I didn't like the twin race format last year, so I'm happy they are making this one the full distance again. The one thing I'll say about the lottery that determined the starting position for race two was that I thought it gave the crowd a good chance to see the personalities of the drivers on display. That was cool.

Yeah, there's a lot of drivers that are pretty awesome folks when you take the helmet off...
Rubens Barrichello-Incredibly friendly
Helio-Always takes time for people
Power-Goofy
Dixon-Very friendly one-on-one. doesn't really like crowds
Viso-Rides a unicycle around the pits
James Jakes-Looks like a bodybuilder. Quiet but fun to be around
Simona-Female Will Power. She's also way better looking in person
Hinch-What you see is what you get
Servia-Always so accomodating
Pagenaud-You have no idea how friendly this guy is.
Graham Rahal-Gets the concept of fans. Spent 10 minutes just shooting the breeze with him in the Ganassi hauler with my father and brother in law at Barber during the rain on Friday.

On the other hand...
Bourdais-While a great driver, doesn't really get fans and always acts aloof
Marco-Hides in his hauler too much. Still acts a bit like a brat

I haven't met any of them, but Newgarden also impresses me as a silly, fun guy.

Bourdais is aloof for sure, especially if you look back to his ChampCar days. But from what I've seen and heard, he's gotten a lot better about that, after some misadventures in F1 and with lower teams in IndyCar.

I've heard plenty of people talk about getting snubbed by Dario. And I've yet to see an interview where I didn't want to punch Dixon in the teeth. The guy is such a whiner. That whole Ganassi camp really.

Newgy is a quality dude for sure. Sarah Fisher wouldn't have hired him if he wasn't. This has to be my favorite Newgy moment....

Good call by Barfield to penalize Power. He clearly chopped Kanaan.

I thought the entire race was quite entertaining.

Going full throttle for two hours straight is more boring for me.

I don't like people crashing, but after Dixon wrecked, the race became more exciting because it became wide open.

Dixon was far and away the best car tonight.
