Crosby Signing a 10-Year Deal Worth $90 Million?

Quote:
James Mirtle ‏@mirtle

So @FriedgeHNIC reports on Satellite Hotstove Crosby will likely get something close to 10-year deal near July 1. Could be $9-million cap hit.

Hot Stove also reported an AAV of ~$9M per.

They said he could get 14M if there was no cap but if he also wanted to win, then he should sign for somewhere around 9M.

Hot stove was saying he could get 14 million a year which would be the max but would take around 9 because he wants to win. They also said this would spell the end for Jordan Staal.

That's a great deal for the Pens, only about 300k more than what he makes now, steal.

IMO that's a terrible move by the Pens. His head should be a giant concern and a 10 year deal could be crippling to that organization.

Does Pittsburgh make a run at Parise (PM said they were interested) if they deal Staal?

I have always thought that Parise is pretty much the ideal winger for Crosby.

They would be a scary combo.

Depends on what the return is. I assume salary would come back if Staal would move. Now if they move Martin, then you better believe Shero will go after Parise.

I actually think he'll go after him regardless.

If they deal Martin, they should just hang onto Staal. Well, there are rumors Staal is unhappy. If he's not going to re-sign after the upcoming year, then deal him. I bet you Carolina and Chicago will be all over Staal.

That's a good deal and nice to see he's about team over greed.

You have to wonder how much the insurance policy for that contract is going to run. Or if they can even get one.

I have another idea. If Pittsburgh is able to deal Martin, why not go after Suter? They could use another solid defenseman. Why make the forward group incredibly top-heavy when you could have a big presence back there for you?

well, this is a huge move by the Pens, it may seem really dangerous given the concussions Crosby has taken, but the fact is, he is on a great term for the player he is and is one of the best in the world. Pens had no leverage here, they pretty much ask Sidney what he wants and for how long. the Pens can't afford to lose him

Why? If Crosby has to retire early due to concusions after signing a 10 year deal, it would not count against the cap.

He can get 14 million, but takes a 5 million dollar pay cut (For you math geeks, that's a 37% discount) to stay here and help the team win.

I thought he wasn't a good leader?

Because we're busting out the seams with Dmen.

Morrow, Despres and Harrington will be ready for prime time within the next couple years, and Strait and Bortuzzo are ready now and deserve their shot.

As far as forwards, we have Tangradi, Bennett and Kuhnhackl in the system, who could all take a few years to develop into legit top 6 guys.

He'll do much better, because he won't be fatigued.

MAF has done his best when he isn't overworked. Simple as that. That is the reason for the collapse in the last few playoffs.

14 million would be insane and not worth it in the cap world.

True. Good thing for Philly, that he's never done that well against them in the playoffs...

Oh wait..
