Will play for Ässät next season and that was Armia's own term since he still wants to develop here.
Why would the Sabres offer him an ELC if they have another year to sign him and he has no intention of leaving? Maybe they're afraid he'll have a big year in Finland and pull a Tim Erixon next spring.

Why not? He had a good year, was a first round pick and was a lock to get a contract at some point. What does the timing matter?

Of course they offer him and ELC at this point... What I've read they would love to get him to NA for next season.

So what's this guy's ceiling? I'm very excited to see him in Buffalo, big skilled winger? Yes please...

My own assessment is that his absolute ceiling is a goalscoring winger who can score 40 goals. He's got the sick hands, shot, skating ability, instincts and he has a very good body suitable for his role. On the downside I feel like his bust potential is still fairly big. He's shown unwillingness at times (at other times not at all) and seems to be a moody player. Last year he sometimes was going for too much dekes to the point that defenders knew what to expect. Luckily he learned to play a more straightforward game during the second half of the season and it payed off very well. Next year should give us a good idea as to where his development is going.

I noticed that Armia's penalty minutes went up quite a bit this past season compared to the previous one. Has he fought at all? Are they dumb penalties? How is his game along the boards? What is his physical game like?

I would say that about 50% of them was dumb penalties, which obviesly is way too much.. Armia had pretty bad first half of the season and because of this he got frustrated sometimes and took stupid penalties. His physical game improved alot from last season, he is not the ragdoll which he was a 1.5 year ago, actually he is pretty hard hitter now. He has not fought at all at this point in FEL, some minor wrestling maybe but not a real fight.

IMO Joel is not yet nowhere near his maximum potential, and he is already a great player.
Strenght and quickness( like he said himself he has to do everything a bit faster) is where he has most to work on..

Thanks for posting that Juzmo.
I made it and somehow forgot to post it in this thread.

I didn't put any music on it because I mute music on other compilations most of the time and figured I shouldn't make others do that.

Daggommit and I was cursing my computers sound system. Good highlight anyway thanks. I see Armia a bit like Malkin lite. His shot is so effortless, has good size and great hands. I see him doing well in NHL but it will take still few years to success. Hopefully I'm wrong and he'll learn NHL game fast

Because Regier now has the financial freedom to be proactive about signing players before the 11th hour and chooses to use it. It doesn't really matter; his contract will slide. It's just the comfort of not having to worry about it.

I wonder if pulling him out of his comfort zone (to North America AHL or NHL) and finding the right coach would correct some
of those bust worries.

Just scored in the second period against Lukko (on Petri Vehanen) to make it 1-0 for Ässät in the first game of the season.

Edit. Almost scored again. Still likes to play against the main rival it seems.

Edit2. Scored on the powerplay. Again with a nice shot.

It took him 15 games last year to score two.
