If DW thought another team was planning on offering him a huge contract.... it's still ****ing stupid. Let the team shoot themselves in the foot by overpaying for an average (at best) dman. That's one less team to worry about having cap room.

You shouldn't just give away draft pick, ever. Imo.
No it wasn't every team in the pacific would be interested in Stuart

Wonder if DW has something else up his sleeve (NASH...)
That doesn't mean Stuart would sign at any cost. This means we can make a decision before it's too late to go after someone else if talks break down.

If he already expressed interest in coming back to SJ, why give up anything for his rights in the first place? Couldn't we have waited until July 1 and signed him and let TOM walk?

you don't know if he'd sign here until you talk to him in person, this gives the Sharks the exclusive rights to do so. Sure, i know what he stated during the season publicly, you just don't know until you talk to him. Can't w/o his rights or you are tampering.

PS - if we sign him we've not given up much anyway.

Well that settles it then. Whatever transgression Stuart may have done has been forgiven by the Organization. Maybe the suits are more flexible then Jeasy believes.

Brad Stuart wanted to be closer to home, didn't necessarily say SJ. Maybe this was to keep him from going back to Deano in LA or Anacrime.

Also, Andrew Murray probably wasn't part of the Sharks plans so he was easy to give up, and as to a conditional 7th, it's not much to do a classy move like bring back to Stuart in teal now and sign him to a deal now.

Its possible DW wants to get the defense finalized before going into the draft, giving him more flexibility to trade Murray and or whoever for picks or something more major.

The Sharks are doing this to give themselves certainty heading into the draft. We know that DW wants to acquire some more draft picks at the draft. There is the general feeling that the Sharks want to/should part with Dan Boyle; this gives them a defenseman-in-hand if they can sign Stuart. Fatass's future with the Sharks is also up in the air.

I think this is the right move. I think the Ducks would have pushed hard for Stuart

DW has not given up much. Gives us a good chance of signing him for some kind of discount before he hits FA.

People would have *****ed about DW not doing anything if come FA Stuart signed with the Ducks or Kings.

Nice. So does TOM now = Douglas Murray ;-)

3 yrs, 10 million is about right

Glad to have Stuey back. He'll be an upgrade over Douglas...

And perhaps DW's convinced Stuey's grown up since then.

I think the Ducks would have pushed really hard. Anehiem isn't that far especially when you drive to LAX and hop on a plane.

I'm not sure the sharks had a problem with him when they traded him as part of the package for Jumbo, he was probably the best player in this deal going the other way. Anyone else recall any problems with him when here before??

Now that we'll have Stuart are we really so certain Doug Murray will be gone? He could still be a good 5/6 dman. And we have a shortage of LD. Who will be the odd man out?

LD - Vlasic, Stuart, Murray
RD - Burns, Boyle, Braun, Demers

^^^this^^^^

We all expected Stuart to come back. Murray is as good as gone now. He will go at the draft so we can get picks or move up.

The pick is a conditional 7th. It isn't the 1st overall, so stop complaining about trading a draft pick.

Yep, adding Stuart would have put them at 51...the trade is essentially just a potential 7th rounder to talk to him before 7/1.

He sucked in the playoffs this past season apparently. So yeah, he'll fit right in.

This takes us to FA. DW has a better negotiating position this way. Otherwise we could be in a bidding war. Right now DW can say this is our offer and if he doesn't take it we go another way. This was the right move.
