Maurice and Barrasso to Magnitogorsk (KHL) as coaches

Maurice and Barrasso are rumoured to Magnitogorsk (KHL). Maurice as head coach, Barrasso as goalie coach. Both worked for Canes this season. Contract with Magnitogorsk should be for one year.

I suspect it might be (at least for Maurice). McKenzie had a tweet earlier in the week where he said something about Maurice going to Europe.

As well there had been some speculation that he had been contacted by KHL clubs but was waiting to hear about vacancies in the NHL (Caps?) so I'm inclined to believe this. Barrasso doesn't make much sense but it also kindof does. If he's a goalie coach in the KHL that doesn't exactly preclude him from also scouting for us, and European scouting is notoriously weak for the Canes.

@HurricanesGM Tom Barrasso informed me yesterday that he is taking a coaching job with Paul Maurice in the KHL.

Talk about needing the money! That looks like a horrible place to live and work.

Perhaps it's more about opportunity and continuing a coaching career?

Both guys will coach Magnitogorsk as I wrote in 1st post here. Club confirmed it. Signed 1y deal. Russian link here, there is written only their former carreer, no need to translate IMO.

EDIT:
for MOD, you can change status as "confirmed"

I doubt it. It's all taht was available. He's going to make as much in 1 year over there, as he makes in 4 years coaching here. I honestly think it's a last chance to grab some money before settling for a job well below the NHL level.

Read he talked to McPhee and WAS but was never a serious candidate. Despite some parts of Russia not being the greatest, coaching in the KHL is still easily better than coaching in the minors or for a junior team. More talented players, better pay, etc. Was a no brainer for Mo if he still felt like coaching. If he does well he might find another NHL job.

Good luck to Paul and Tom!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they make a ton of money, have a lot of success with their team ... and come back to the NHL one day. The problem I'd have over there is ... I WOULDN'T WANT TO FLY ON A RUSSIAN PLANE!!! (And I wouldn't have wanted to before the dreadful accident last year!)
