Pavelec is going nowhere & we don't even need Schneider.

He would only play in the KHL for a lockout season.

Yeah, some people on my Twitter / FB have been freaking out but I'm not even a little worried. As long as there's an NHL season, Pavs will be in the net on opening night.

As been said before, Pavs value is in potential and he could be replaced easily shortterm-wise, if something was to happen, but I'm doubtful that something actually does.
Also stated, it is most likely for either (or both) lockout backup plan or contractual leverage. Most pending FA's do this because unless you entertain all possibilities you may not get the best deal for yourself. I'm sure these two reasons were the same we heard about Burmi earlier in the offseason.
And with the Pasquale thing... I hope to god they don't bring him up for a while. He needs some longterm fulltime work in the AHL.

Good.

Mason should be our starter here anyway. That guy really speaks to me.

If you read that article I just posted shows how Mason got pretty easy minutes (EDIT: AKA sheltered)...
and still ended up with 2.59 GA and .898 SV%... I hope dear god he is not our starter.

Anyone who says Mason isn't better than Pavelec should have their hockey fan cards and man cards turned in. You just don't know hockey.

Are you kidding or not? I'm so confused...

This would be a better year than this year to compare (since Mason recieved sheltered games for the most part this year)
Pavs 2010-2011 GP 58 SV% .914 GAA 2.73
Mason 2010-2011 GP 33 SV% .892 GAA 3.39

To me that looks like Pavs is currently better. Add in the fact that Mason's best days are most likely behind him and Pav's are most likely ahead of him.

I'm no homer; up above I stated he's replacable (currently, but may develop to greater) and I've had some here not to happy with my statements in regards to Pavs needing to step it up a level.

it was a joke.

his reasoning was "that guy speaks to me"...i'd think that should have tipped most of us off that it was a joke

My sarcasm meter is broken... at least I wasn't totally oblivious enough to not be suspicious...

If Pavs leaves for the KHL then well have to suck it up and find a replacement.

If Reimer can't hack it in Toronto, there's no way he'd hack it on the Jets regardless if he was a Manitoba boy or not.

Right after I buy a Pavelec Jersey over a Kane one thinking he'd stay here longer...

Interesting how that works...

Why was Pavlec's "situation" so bad?

I think Pasquale should get a call up, he'd be good for us.

Please keep him down for at least a full year...
We're not looking for a cup run for at least a year so let him develop further; he's not ready yet and pulling him up can stunt his growth.

His situation is the middle of the pack in terms of goalies who started at least 20 games. Based on fenwick measures (it's in the link provided). I was just curious as to the stats of the goalies who were crapped on worse than him cause ignoring the fenwick measures pavlecs numbers were pretty bad this season. Personally don't think he's in the top half of the league in terms of starters (ignoring potential to get better)

Ben is one of the main authors at www.arcticicehockey.com maybe you can ask him nicely...
The authors over there have stated before they think Pavs is a guy with potential but currently not outstanding...

He won't go to the KHL unless the city has an Earls restaurant. Don't think they have a presence in Russia...
