Anyone else hearing that JVR may be blocking a Nash to Philly trade? Let the summer of weirdness begin!

I think as soon as the finals are over, we are going to see a flurry of trades up until the draft. It's a terrible UFA market. Lots of big names like Nash, Luongo, Staal floating around.

If I'm Edmonton, I kick tires on both Staal and Ryan Suter's rights. But I would in no way expect to get either, just inquire to see what it would take.

Tambo is a complete moron if he isn't at least inquiring on guys like Suter, JVR, Staal, Schultz, etc.

Like you said, unlikely we land any, but stranger things have happened. If you don't swing you'll never hit a homerun?

What's the point of this for Philly? Weren't they #1 in goals scored? What's the point of adding a $7M+ contract?

Thoughts on adding Paul Martin as a cap dump from Pittsburgh?

He wasn't good in the playoffs last year, but I think he was playing hurt.

He's generally been a decent puck moving D before that and I think Pittsburgh wants to move salary out.

If we can't find other options, I'd take him as a cap dump. 2 years left on his deal works for us, he can move the puck up to our kids and is a veteran.

He's not a right handed shot, but surely he's an upgrade on Cam Barker.

I would say yes depending on the price.

He's an upgrade over Potter or Peckham. I wouldn't give anything more than a third round pick for him though.

No to Martin.

The reason he struggled this whole season was due to the up tempo offensive style of hockey Pittsburgh plays.

If I had to guess(hope), we will be trying to implement something similar. Not sure it's the best idea to trade for a guy who struggled in that style of play.

Pair him with someone big/physical and RH and you're good to go. Check combined hits of Martin/Michalek and you understand why they suffered against aggressive forechecks. At New Jersey, Brodeur's puckhandling helped a ton as did their trapping-like system then. Martin is an excellent skater - up tempo was never the issue.

From what I gather Martin was pretty bad last year. He is also signed for three more years. I'd pass.

I would be interested in acquiring Martin. Apparently he struggled this year (I didn't watch enough to verify) but as a veteran defenseman who has played quite well for the majority of his career, I would think this past season was an abnormality. He has a hefty contract but it's not overly restricting. This is an opportunity to get him for cheap.

Hey guys, can you tell me about Theo Peckham? I'm interested in him as an Isles fan, is he capable of a top four spot, how is his skating, can he be had for picks and second-tier prospects?

top 4? never, his skating is medicore, his aggression is top notch and he his a protector of teammates. we hoped he would turn into Matt Greene 2.0 but it hasnt panned out.................that being said he is a valuable valuable piece of the oilers so maybe Tavares and 2012 4OA

Uhhh yeah, it's possible he could be a top-4 guy, and his skating is decent....you can have him for picks and second-tier prospects, both plural. Deal? Okay. No takesies-backsies

I was just going to say, isn't he basically a softer version of Gilbert who makes $1M more per year? I think if he came here people would be all over him after watching him play and on that salary.

Hmmm. Pretty surprising.

You sure it's legit?

If so, Can't lose when it comes to adding depth to this d core.

Id be happy with him over Peckham, potter and barker.

Isn't he Nick Schultz's brother in law? I could see him giving Edmonton serious consideration. Definitely an improvement over Potter-Peckham and we wouldn't have to worry about him taking any more runs at the kids this way.
