MTL 3rd Overall

I been doing some research and this is what I think Montreal should do with there 3rd Overall Pick. everyone wants Montreal to pick Alex Galchenyuk, it would be nice but I feel we should pick Mikhail Grigorenko and for 2 reasons.

1. Alex Galchenyuk partner is the 1st Overall so we can't get him and we don't have the assets to do so.

2. Mikhail Grigorenko partner is Frederick Roy the son of Patrick Roy who is not signed at this very moment.

Frederick Roy Stats

Regular Season Playoffs
Season Team Lge GP G A Pts +/-
2008-09 Remparts QMJHL 50 7 17 24 19
2009-10 Remparts QMJHL 4 2 4 6 2
2010-11 Remparts QMJHL 65 26 32 58 24
2011-12 Remparts QMJHL 64 27 65 92 35

so what do you think habs fans what would you do?

I'm not a Habs fan, but I would take Grigorenko. I think it's too risky to take someone who missed the whole year with the 3rd pick plus I think Grigs has higher upside anyway.

When you have the 3rd overall pick you kinda worry about getting the best player rather than wondering about his undrafted linemate. IF BPA is grigorenko, it's cool. if it's galchenyuk, get galchenyuk.

Yes. This is what the Habs should do. Galc or Grig on Buffalo would be awesome.

I've done some research as well, and I don't really care who they draft with that 3rd pick (though Galchenyuk sounds like a fun player and I like his background) I just hope it's more Jonathan Toews than Cam Barker.

How stupid do you look if you pass on Grigorenko and he ends up Malkin-lite?

And how devastating is it if you pick Galchenyuk and he's a poor mans Patrik Stefan in his prime?

I bet Timmins is having some restless nights these days.

Who knows, maybe the guy the Habs draft with the Predators' 2nd round pick this year ends up being their best pick of this year?

Isn't this a better discussion for the habs board instead of the trade and free agent board? Especially since you are asking for the opinion of Montreal fans. Sure if you were asking for the value of the pick it would make sense but it just seems like this is the wrong place for this.

It sees most MTL fans would be happy with either of them but prefer Galchenyuk. It will be a tough decision but I am sure your scouts will base the pick on many factors since they will have seen both play a lot more times than most on this board.

"Have fun storming the castle!" "You think it will work?" "It would take a miracle".

Grigorenko IMO is exactly what the Habs need wish we could get that pick from you guys (not going to happen of course )

And how stupid do you look if Grigorenko signs with the KHL. Those prospect interviews with Grigorenko will have a lot of influence with where he is selected. If he doesn't like a team, he can simply tell them he's signing in the KHL.

I'd be willing to pay Edmonton a 2nd to draft Grigorenko and only because I want your dreams to come true.

There are threads about who the Habs should pick in the Habs forum. This isn't really the place for this kind of discussion.
