If I'm Homer I do this only if we can avoid trading Schenn and couturier. I don't want to risk getting fleeced on that deal. My best offer would be jvr, bob, Wellwood, and our 1st
I'm curious what the pricetag would be for the Leafs if they traded for JVR (Burke is a fan of him I believe) and B. Schenn (add the 2nd Schenn to the Roster)?
Howard Eskin on Sports Final NBC10 is reporting that JVR is holding up a trade that holmgren has set up due to a torn labrum. Apparently JVR is putting off the necessary surgery for this injury so he can avoid a potential trade.
JVR has made it clear earlier this year with all of the trade speculation that if he was dealt than he'll move on because as much as he loves philadelphia, it's a business.
I'm not sure if I can believe this but it was reported so I figured I'd throw it on here for anyone who missed the segment.
Howard Eskin also broke the news for the Carter and Richards trades last summer right before they happened...
[UPDATE]
This held up trade is apparently to acquire winger, Rick Nash from CBJ.
As I said players on the team may rethink signing long term on good contracts if as soon as they sign them they are traded.
If they trade JVR I can see that being the case and more Flyers demanding NTC.

this would be crazy but what do you think the flyers would offer for Nash and CBJ's 2nd overall pick?
I'm thinking it would take JVR, Mesz, Schenn, Wellwood, bob, read.. eh?
It absolutely amazes me that it hasn't bit Holmgren in the ass yet, as it's been his calling card for a few years now. The guy has about as much respect for loyalty as he does toilet paper.
I get the concept that trading guys who sign long term deals to play for you could come back and bite him, but let's not go crazy with the "no respect for loyalty" nonsense. Richards and Carter were moved in part because of their lack of off-ice commitment and JvR hasn't been around long enough to warrant loyalty to anything.

Richards and JvR have/had NTCs in their contracts, they just hadn't kicked in yet. I can't remember if Carter did as well. They have to get to the age where they're eligible for them.

Carter did. Carter was pissed about it too. Since the his new contract hadn't kicked in yet (and he couldn't get a NTC on his old one obviously), Holmgren gave Carter his word that he wouldn't trade him for the one year where he didn't have a NTC.
Which is why Carter signed an 11 year deal when he did since he knew his NTC would kick in when his contract did as well
If the deal is between the Flyers and the Blue Jackets, it'll probably be something like this:
To Flyers:
R. Nash
To Blue Jackets:
JVR
B. Schenn
1st round pick (20th overall)
Bobrovsky is probably part of the deal with the Jackets needing goalie help. I also don't think Holmgren is trading Schenn or Couturier anytime soon. Schenn is the "piece" the Flyers got for Richards. They're gonna give him every opportunity to succeed in Philly before they ship him off.
JVR is the most overrated player in the league. He had one good playoff series....that is IT. He's already injury prone. No thanks from a Toronto perspective. Gardiner in his rookie season has everyone amazed with what he can do. A lot of the scouts around the league are comparing him to Neidermayer. The only person who has downplayed these talks is Burke saying that he doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as him YET. So 5th overall and Gardiner for JVR and Schenn No thanks.

I know, If I was signing with the Flyers I'd make sure that I got a NTC as soon as I was eligible for one.
I think people need to understand what "overrated" means. JVR is not overrated because we all agree he is struggling and not living up to his 2nd overall status. He is still young though and has potential. Gardiner on the other hand is basically given god-like status amongst leaf fans and has only one played one season. He played pretty well but his sophomore year will tell much more.
As for the above trade, yeah Philly probably has to add if it were to happen right now.
