Isn't he Nick Schultz's brother in law? I could see him giving Edmonton serious consideration. Definitely an improvement over Potter-Peckham and we wouldn't have to worry about him taking any more runs at the kids this way.
This is my thought's as well. Wiki has them as being related, but that info can never be trusted.

I wouldn't be opposed. In fact sure, bring him in. He'd be an improvement over our prior defensive depth. Just make it a cheap contract. Wonder if he'd sign for 1 million per over 3 years.

Sarich? He doesn't have 3 years left, he would be the old 1yr to 1yr kind of contract at this point.
For all you guys wanting to dump Peckham. He's only 24 years old. Defenseman take time to develop. Remember what happened when we traded Greene away? Give the guy some time. If he doesn't show an improvement over the course of a year or two then maybe we can talk about moving him. The only way I move Pecks is if it's an over payment or a deal bringing back a player similar. i.e Luke Schenn.

The real problem with Peckham is what do you do with him? He can't go to the AHL and he isn't exactly ready for the NHL splitting time between the PB and the #6 spot.
I'd love to hold onto him for 2 or 3 more years, but I'm afraid we can't.
Anyone else hearing that JVR may be blocking a Nash to Philly trade? Let the summer of weirdness begin!
I think as soon as the finals are over, we are going to see a flurry of trades up until the draft. It's a terrible UFA market. Lots of big names like Nash, Luongo, Staal floating around.
If I'm Edmonton, I kick tires on both Staal and Ryan Suter's rights. But I would in no way expect to get either, just inquire to see what it would take.
JVR is exactly what this team needs. Right skill set, right point in his career. Plus coming off an injury may mean a buy-low scenario. I don't know how we'd possibly make room for him (Gagner out, Hall to center?), but this team ain't winning without a few big bodies up front.
Thanks for the replies, we have three defenseman signed for next year so yeah, we have some holes to fill. Peckham sounds like a nice fit, he will fit the bill of bringing more size, physicality, toughness, and leadership. He can play on the bottom pairing with whatever rookie makes the team Donovan/de Haan/Katic/Ness, their going to go through their growing pains but I think Theo can become really solid. He's only 24, defenseman take longer to develop, especially ones like him. The only thing that worries me is that he is at best a number six guy right now and being the veteran on the bottom pairing may be too much responsibilty right now.

I still like the idea of making him the 4th line LW that can take 7th defenseman shifts. He did do pretty well at times on the PK and in 5-on-3 situations.
Peckham hasn't been the same since he got that concussion. He was developing quite nicely into a mean 5/6 guy who can PK. He seems to have lost that edge since then and it has hurt his game.

That's what i suggested last year and everyone thought I was an idiot for it.

He also had problems last year with the PIM's he just seemed lost to what he could do and couldn't do.
I just don't know that Peckham would last skating as much as a forward does.
If he's our 4th line winger, he's not going to be getting a ton of ice time. Plus, then he can really deal out some punishment and if someone gets hurt, we still can ice 6 dmen
Thoughts on adding Paul Martin as a cap dump from Pittsburgh?
He wasn't good in the playoffs last year, but I think he was playing hurt.
He's generally been a decent puck moving D before that and I think Pittsburgh wants to move salary out.
If we can't find other options, I'd take him as a cap dump. 2 years left on his deal works for us, he can move the puck up to our kids and is a veteran.
He's not a right handed shot, but surely he's an upgrade on Cam Barker.
There's a pylon of the QE 2 that's an upgrade on Barker

I just picture a different version of Stortini missing guys by 3-4 feet. It's one thing to cream guys when they are coming along the boards, but when you actually have to go out of your way to hit, it's a whole new ball game.
Problem is we don't need to find an upgrade on Barker, we already have 7 d-men for next season. We need upgrades on those guys.
Agreed. If this team has 2 of Potter, Sutton and Peckham in the lineup at any given time, we're in big trouble. We need defencemen that are good enough to push the 4 we do have, down the lineup, not up. I just don't see those type of players readily available for what we have to offer.
Link doesn't work, but I'll take your word on that. I'm also curious if he is just coming to camp and going back to the SEL or what is going to happen.

Link works for me. Staying in SEL, sounds like he will be coming to camp.
