...still chasing their tails up there in Oil country...
It's a puzzling move. They rode him out of town on a rail a few years back and have been even worse on the ice since, but bringing him - yet another ex-Oiler - back in a managerial role doesn't really make a lot of sense.

The icing on the cake would be to bring back Gretzky as the head coach.
Yay!!! I for one am very happy he is gone. Never liked his " dazed and confused" look! It like he escaped from the movie of the same name. Not only that, he had Oilers tattooed to his ass. Buh bye macky. I much prefer arneil. Just seems so calm and knowledgeable

As long as they bring in Eddie Mio as his assistant. Gretz loves him some Eddie Mio. There's got to be an ex-Oiler the team hasn't given a managerial, scouting or coaching job to in the past decade. What about Esa Tikkanen? Does he own a collared shirt?
First thought that came to my mind as well. Working with the Canucks as a scout already, would be nice to see him back in his former role. Familiar with lots of the faces down there, too.

I wasn't finished reading that MacT was out when Arniel came to mind as the replacement. He was very visible as the Moose coach, I definately liked how he developed and coached the Moose.
Do the Canucks get compensated with a pick or do thy get some other perk like getting to wear the home jersey on the road? Or do we get nothing?
No compensation allowed anymore (though even under the "old rules" - I don't think there would be compensation in the case of a "promotion").

lol....
Seems like the Oilers have making some of the same mistakes the Canucks used to do (fill-up too many managerial spots to ex-players).
Old CBA too I believe. I don't think the current CBA allows for compensation for coaches moving.
Almost 100% sure that loophole was closed. If we could get wetcoaster to pick up the white courtesy phone/notice the bat signal about a CBA question, we could be set.
