Islanders not interested in re-signing PA Parenteau?

Item 14

It doesn't sound like the Islanders are interested in re-signing Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau. Sometimes, people look at guys like him and say, "He's only getting points because he's playing with John Tavares." While that may be true, it's always a gamble the next guy has the same chemistry with your star. Or that Parenteau will go somewhere else and get 67 points with a different star.

I wonder what his demands are. I don't see why the Islanders couldn't match them unless they are ridiculous. Anyway, maybe they feel other players can take his spot with a lesser cost.

Does that sound like the NYI don't want to sign him?Or is it that, they won't break their limited budget for him?

He's 27/28 and this will be his first huge payday.

On the show's twitter feed last night (@antichambre ) , PA is quoted as saying that "there's not a huge difference in the numbers" but they're still "fairly far apart". He added that he would be "nervous" if it reached July.

It was noted PA had a respectable (my wording, not the GMs, based on what was relayed to me) offer and chose to test the market.

I'd wager you're in the ballpark. Even if he's riding JT's coattails, sometimes it's worth it to pay for the chemistry. The Islanders don't really have any guys waiting to step into that role as far as I know.

This.

Grabovski got 5.5M per and Parenteau probably wants something similar. Grabo got that type of $$$ because he was set to be the best UFA center on the market this summer... can PA play center?

If he makes it to July 1 I am guessing Montreal will go hard after him to play on the Plekanec line.

Hes a good complimentary player. However do competitive teams have room for a complimentary player on their top line? He had a great season, however he kind of reminds me of Clarke MaCarthur/Ville Leino from last season. Looked fantastic when everyone was firing on all cylinders. As soon as some of the cogs disjointed their production and effectiveness fell greatly. I'm just not sold if hes worth the ticket he will be demanding. Theres no doubt he will get signed, just will it be for a contender? Will the singing franchise end up with a good player with a high price tag? or will the signing franchise end up with a dud player with a high price tag? Who knows.

Then he'll have to sweat it out till the Islanders get turned down by their top UFA targets, namely Suter, Allen, Jackman, and Roszival. I'd rather bolster the defense and play Okposo on the top line and be weak on the wing, than have PAP and a weak D. PAP is going to be a lot of team's 2nd or 3rd choice. Unless some team goes the FLA route, there will be time to sign PAP.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Tavares's cap hit is $5.5m and his actual take home will be $4m.He signed after Stamkos signed for $7m per.

Pay Parenteau Tavares type money?

Oh,**** no.

Someone else can have that honor.

Parenteau should recognize that he won't get a better break for the rest of his career than playing on Tavares' wing. He should milk this for a few more seasons at a reasonable deal, lest he go the way of Anson Carter and demand way too much money after one productive season with extremely fortunate linemates.

Not re-signing PAP creates room in the budget to overpay for d-man either by signing one as a UFA, or trading for one (ie, another team's cap dump).

I would be nervous to give him that kind of contract. He had a great year but who knows if he overachieved. Giving him 5M for 5 years is a gamble not many teams would be willing to risk.

Before this news about Parenteau,NY press was saying Snow would be trying to add a top 4 defenseman.I don't think Parenteau leaving, really changes their budget for that defenseman.

I think we will see Snow go after Huselius or Andrei Kostitsyn for his top 6,using Parenteau's money.

I remember reading he was looking for a long term deal. I took that to mean in the ball park of 4 or 5 year term.

Just a hunch, but I would think considering the Isles farm system the Isles are more comfortable with a two year deal.

In other words, the Isles will come close to the money but not the term. PA will most likely explore his options in an attempt to find his term, consider the pay associated to the desired term and weight the options against the deal and the situation presented to him by the Isles.

Wouldn't surprise me if they let him walk and move Okposo into the wing beside Tavares and Moulson.

If he gets that unless he is playing with a center of Tavares' caliber be prepared for an overpaid 45-50 point winger.

oh I agree, I dont think he is worth that much, I am just thinking that there is always a GM out there that is willing to overpay a little for the chance magic can happen......

This...

IMO this is Okposo to show he is a true top 6 winger that can be counted on to score 25-30 goals...

He came on strong last season after a horrific start and being a healthy scratch......

They only bad thing about this would be an excuse to rush another youngter before his time...

Okposo scored 24 goals this season.
Scoring 1-6 more, will prove he is a a true top 6 winger?
