Sometimes it's useful if there's a newsworthy site you follow but don't often visit their web page. A tweet will let you know when there is a story there that you might want to check out.

Maybe it's say the weather channel. That's not something I usually go and check the web page. But let's say a tornado warning has been issued or something--now you are alerted to it and you go can go check out their page for more information or what not. And that's actually a case where a few minutes could be extremely important.

Or maybe it's a friends blog that you check out maybe once or twice a week. Your friend posts something, tweets about it, and you decide it's important enough to go check out.

Also, sometimes journalists put out a tweet before the full story is available because it only takes a minute to write 140 characters, the story takes much longer--especially if they are trying to get quotes or something. Sometimes there may be interesting factoids that are more trivial in the tweets--like stats during a sport games "so and so has accomplished the feat of so and so for the first time on a Tuesday since some time so many years ago".

And I am different I guess ...

I can wait for that story
I can wait for the official news to break that the Sabres signed J. Staal :pray:
I don't need to know if a story is about to unfold. I can wait for it to actually ... unfold
Any real important news ... Will be ... On the TV, Radio or websites

It seems like a tool for those with zero patience

I am not mocking or poking fun at those that enjoy twitter. I personally have no real NEED for it. And have yet to read a reason why it would be benificial for me.

Have at it ... Um Tweeters?

How about for quick questions/answers? For instance, have a cap question, you tweet @capgeek and they can respond to clarify things for you.

Like I responded to early, that is merely one small part of the advantages of Twitter and you seem to ignore the other benefits that have been mentioned here.

I understand where you're coming from and it's not for everybody, I hated Twitter until I started looking into it and realized the benefits. However, calling it a tool for those with zero patience is wildly inaccurate.

I've used RSS feeds for years -- though some feeds can be buggy, tardy or extraneous -- to check for "news" when I get lulls throughout the work day. However, I did finally sign up for twitter this month. I don't really plan to tweet or follow much, instead I'll try and implement the list function into a resource for GDTs and GDT data mining. The advantage of lists IMO is that I can group or filter the feed to fit what content I want, as opposed to a mishmash of hundreds of followed accounts.

For instance, in my next layover, I'll likely continue my dry run with twitter by adding more accounts to my lists -- IIRC I've started "NHL: Sabres", "NHL: Sabres Alumni", "PHWA: ALL Chapters", "PHWA: BUF Chapter", "NHLPA: Cert. Agents", "Juniors/Scouts", etc. -- and see if the content proves relevant and helpful. I'd imagine it's an especially quick way to get a better handle on other markets.

Mostly sports talk. RT a lot of comedians. You'll laugh, you'll cry..and maybe, just maybe....you'll learn something about yourself.

@Bradyboy2121

I dabble in a lot of things on twitter. Mainly sports though.

I love Twitter. I live in Idaho so I use Twitter to get news on a lot of things around the World, especially sports news. Being a Sabres fan and not living in Buffalo, it is a nice way to interact with people who are from Buffalo and are Sabres fans. I actually feel that if I ever do make it to Buffalo for a few games, I can reach out to the people I follow on Twitter and meet up with them for the games or even have them show me around or something.

I also use Twitter for work purposes as well and have gained knowledge from information found on Twitter. It is just another easy way to share information from around the world.

Thought I would bump this thread because I want to talk Buffalo sports with fellow HFers on twitter and there aren't any of those kinds of people in Kansas.

@CriminallyVu1ga

Character limit chopped my R.

I am not safe for work in any way. I use it to get hockey news, talk about hockey, complain about everything, be generally combative, call stupid people stupid, interface with other professional, amateur, and aspiring writers, and interface with other professional, amateur, and aspiring adult models, actors, and actresses.

I have a second account that my partner and I share and use exclusively for issues that are important to us.

I use twitter, but i just wanna follow famous people or athletes there. If you follow too many people on twitter, you have to spend a lot of time on this site to check interesting tweets. I don't have the time for that and thats why I just follow 15-30 people on twitter.

On facebook on the other hand, there I try too add as many people I know as possible. I don't read the "news feed" there very often, but i like writing messages there and I like staying connected with people there.

If you want to add me on facebook, just send me a pm.
