I like all of it except Rob Ray and RJ signing a multi year deal.

Sabres shake up broadcast team

And almost entirely for the better:
  • Kevin Sylvester will be leaving his TV broadcast duties to host a new radio-only show, called "Sabres Hockey Hotline" (spiritual successor to a certain Empire show?) on WGR, starting next Monday.
  • Brian Duff will now be the full-time studio host, taking Sylvester's place.
  • Games in the NYC area will no longer use the Rangers/Islanders/Devils feeds.
  • Rob Ray will replace Harry Neale as color commentator alongside both RJ and Dunleavy.
  • Neale, as well as Danny Gare and Mike Robitaille, will be seen across all of the Sabres' media outlets.

Duff full-time? AWESOME!
KSly not on TV that much? AWESOME! <--here's hoping he doesn't become the fill-in commentator
Ray in the booth as opposed to between the benches...meh. Sometimes it's nice to hear whats happening down there...I hope someone else moves into that role.

Neale will still be involved, but if Ray is in the booth, does that mean Neale is moving to studio commentator?

Looks like Gare is also going to be involved in multiple facets.

Bringing Brian Duff on is a tremendous move. Rob Ray in the color booth should be interesting. Let's see how it works out.

Sylvester is rewarded with a big producer role which gets him off the tube and best of all, out of the broadcast booth.

Still stuck with MSG but we all knew that was going to be the case.

Hopefully, they've thought out their roster moves as thoroughly (and as well) as they appear to have considered their new broadcast squad.

I hate this. Ray is awful.

Duff should have had that job handed to him on a silver platter with a big fat bonus. I guess his credibility isn't as good as Ray's, though.

Less Sylvester/Neale is nice. Any word on Roby?

Where does it say that? Not that I don't believe you but Dunleavy's name isn't mentioned in the article.

Ray doing color? Oh man, that'll be priceless. I can only imagine how blasted some people will get playing the Rayzor drinking game. Shot for every time he says "No, you're right Rick." Good luck.

Huh, it was in WGR's report, but they appear to have removed that detail.

Yeah, I was looking for that too.

Still want Paul Hamilton to get a shot though. The radio call he did against Phoenix a few years back was pretty damn good.

Gotcha, that's strange. I liked Dunleavy and Hamilton, I'd be fine with either of them when RJ isn't doing the game.

When Tootoo catches wind of Sylvester's disappearence from Sabres broadcasts, will he say "take that, kevin!"?

I'm torn about Rob Ray.

On one hand, I think he's under-rated at analysis and provides some interesting insight that I don't always hear elsewhere.
On the other hand, he can't articulate and that can he grating.

I liked Rob Ray by the ice. Not the most eloquent guy, but he did have some good insight from down there. Not so sure he'll be good as a color guy. But, at the very least, between him and RJ, there's a helluva drinking game to be made there.

Also, thank god we don't have to listen to NYI/NJD feeds anymore. I actually don't hate the NYR ones.

I know several years back he was doing announcing at Fort Erie Racetrack

I'm torn on this... I love Rayzor but I don't think he's ready/good enough for the booth. He mumbles too much and sometimes is incoherent. I know I'm in the minority but I actually enjoy listening to Neale, the guy is a legend and I can't stand the people that put him down constantly while not being critical towards RJ. Neale is a true pioneer in the booth and doesn't deserve the vile hatred spewed towards him. At least he is still going to be involved.

Well they shook up the broadcast team, let's see if they can shake up the roster or coaching staff

Less Sylvester is always always always a wonderful thing

Congrats to Duff solid addition.

I thought Neale was retiring

Rob Ray will be fine. Unless you're hyper-sensitive about every little screw up, like some are with RJ.

Like the moves. Duff is the consummate professional, Ray is Ray (meaning a bit dopey but what's not to love about the guy?), and it appears as though they've given up on Sylvester as the heir-apparent to RJ (thank the heavens).
